So as of now I run a Imperial Guard Mech army that is very close to a modern American army Mech. Company - the support staff . This for me includes chimeras , tanks , several gunships ( not exactly fluffy I use them like CAS ) with a large amount of vets and an infantry platoon with goodies , now my question is where should I expand to ? I want to match a modern style as such I don't know what allies to take with my Guard , any suggestions for a combo of good fluff , realism and practicality in having another mech force with my detachment ?

My mechanized infantry TOE is a little rusty, but most mechanized infantry units carry organic artillery in the form of 120mm mortar carriers, so Griffons would be fluffy additions. There is also ADA and AT support elements, but American forces don't have a mobile gun system like the Hydra. Although you could always convert up something for counts-as, maybe like a Patriot battery or something similar.

The 3rd ID is pretty good example of a modern, heavy mechanized force. Probably worth a perusal to get some ideas.

It sounds like you sort of have a little bit of everything. The first thing I'd do is take those things which are being more successful for you, and get more of those. That way you can start having a more homogenized force based around your best units.

Great Idea with the Griffins i never actually considered that , And We did have a mobile Gunsystem a while ago back in the 80's on the old 113's ( Hated those things in Traning ) That carried a Anti- Helicopter Gatling of sorts ( Been a while since i had to read the Specs ) As For the Patriot Battery i actually use one for my Quad Gun interceptor , turned out well i think but others could most likely make a better one . -- As for the 120's i thought that we were deploying some of that NOLS* Cannons that had that insane rate of fire or something right ? just thoguhts

Im no military expert but i would figure tau would fit well as fire support using mostly markerlights and seeker missiles like modern day drone strikes. and if you can get them the barracuda is the most modern looking jet fighter in the game to me. (or take a BUNCH of remora gun drones)

i could even see all that being converted into guard style.

If you are trying to stick with a modern American theme (and you think you can afford the hefty price tag) then have a look at the Imperial Guard Vulture Gunship. With the Punisher Gatling cannon equipped, it is essentially an A-10 Warthog.

STR 5 Heavy 20 with the Strafing Run special rule puts a ton of hurt on the bad guys. It also carries Multiple rocket pods and SIX hunter killer missiles for the low low cost of 105 points (plus upgrades)!!

im liking all of these responses , cash isn't an issue i have 6 months of Deployemnt pay lol --- I have a Vulture but found it cheaper to take Vendettas ( which act as Apaches really ) i ll look into getting 2 Vultures to run actual CAS for my troops in the realistic fluff aspect , I agree with pony mans idea with the Marker lights , as far i think i might get a small group of Tau to act as Foward Artillary Observers or Foward Air coordinators , so ill look ingo that actually great ideas thansk
