Hey guys, will be blogging my progress on the rather intimidating task of my highest standard commision to date. Under the guiding hand of our very own Tommie Soule I've been asked to convert and paint up a grey knight Librarian mini to go with the rest of the clients army up to a display standard.

Thankfully the finecast Liby I have to work with is in good order, one of the btter examples of finecast I have seen so far and the few imperfections were easy enough to clean up, or were not needed and could be replaced by other parts.

Much of the conversion challenge came from trying to make the standard space marine terminator armour look more like it belonged with his grey knight chums, which have some very distinct features. Most of the space marine specific iconography and imperial eagles was removed to make way for the striking smooth steel plating of the grey knights and aditional effects added such as extra rivets, purity seals, and nicknacks from te grey knight terminator kit.

Chief among the additions to tie him into the army are the heraldry shield which all grey knigths wear, some text inscribed shoulder pads that give grey knights something to read on their long trips through the warp, and the compulsery giant nemesis force weapon.

The monsterous book/pope-hat/banner of doom was quickly set aside in favour of some more sublte personal back banner and a little floaty friend to help focus the flow of the models shape past the sword.

Quick update!

Started applying some quick base colours to get a feel for the colour composition on the mini as well as practicing some metallic blends on the simpler panels.

Still in two minds about the cloth colour, I'm tempted to try out purple as a subtler colour.

The base was a nice destraction and something more in my current comfort zone. It needs to match the rest of te army, which has basing similar to the GW studio grey knights, but I wanted to make sure it stood out a little and added charcter to the mini.

Heres the first panel completed, glazing a subtle blend from lights to darks using NMM techniques with metallic paint. After this some colour glazes were added in the form of blues and purples for extra eye candy.

More soon!

Just a mini update today, stared work on the sword, getting the basecoats down and the blade about 70% done.

Been having a little trouble with the tip so I set him aside for the night instead of tackling subtle blends while being frustrated and rushed.

More tommorow hopefully!
