Hey guys!

Finally got this guy done. I KNOW there isn't any basing as I'm waiting for my resin bases to come in!
I think he turned out OK. These are the first big spaces I've painted with my scheme and I messed up in a few spots - some due to hastiness, some due to carelessness.
At the very end I decided to do a mild OSL on the sword and I think it turned out alright. I haven't decided if I'm going to keep it, I hope you guys will help me decide. Fixing it will take probably 4 hours.

Anyway, enjoy.

Group of what I have painted so far. All models will be rebased

C & C please!

The painting's not bad, but it does look a bit dull. Nothing really pops out about the purple or (especially) the black. I think some highlighting on the black and some brightening on the purple would bring up the look a lot. Right now the rest of the models wash out with the brightness of the Force Weapons.

I really appreciate the comment, and one like it was presented in my terminator thread. I truly don't believe the eye and brain requires a sharp line, sharp highlight or a fierce contrast for a color, to make a surface really pop. This hard line highlighting which I agree can look good - seems to only be prevalent in the miniature war gaming world. Realism to me, at least is not presented with a nice color, blend, gradient highlighted by usually a much brighter color on the extreme edge of a surface. I've painted many many aircraft, tanks, trains that look real, and never once used a sharp edge highlight. It's a look, a realism that I'm going for.

Again I appreciate the comment and I won't say the edge highlighting doesn't look good because sometimes it does. I realize that the idea behind edge highlighting is that the models are covered in small details and without the sharpness, the eye has a harder time to pick out detail

I have to say I actually really love this purple, it looks great from my side of the monitor! I also love the NDK model, I will be following cues from a model I saw here and making one in a Deathwing scheme just for fun and to own the model.

"You are like a son and together we have all but conquered the galaxy. Now the time has come for me to retire to Terra. My work as a soldier is done and now passes to you for I have great tasks to perform in my earthly sanctum. I name you Warmaster and from this day forth all of my armies and generals shall take orders from you as if the words came from mine own mouth. But words of caution I have for you for your brother Primarchs are strong of will, of thought and of action.

The blending on the armour and the power weapons are stunning. I think the OSL on the Dreadknight looks fine, but I think that maybe the reason you're not sure about it is because it's not really clear where the light is originating from. To me it looks like the light is coming from the hilt of the sword, and I think you were going for the blade. It might be because some of the areas [e.g. under the hilt] would be in shade if the light was coming from the blade. Hope that makes sense but great models!

I guess I can't stay in the showcase cause I don't have a base :(

Thanks for the comments I think you're right about the OSL I think I may keep it
