Last summer, I managed to get an authentic Armorcast Reaver Titan, cast in 1988 (it's only 4 years younger than me!)
It didn't come cheap, but was very well worth it - unlike FW stuff (which is of MUCH higher quality, but screams 'Battletech' to me), it's full of old school fun and style.
Sadly, the detail quality is... lacking to say the least. So I was intent on adding quite a lot of stuff on top of the original model.

The previous owner already modified it quite a bit: from what I can tell, filing down most of axe reliefs and replacing them with aquilas, as well as filling 'skeletal' parts and adding magnets and screw nut joints to make transportation easier.
It also came with 4 arm options: stock melta, plasma and turbo laser, and scratch-built gatling blaster made of, from what I can tell, six pens Didn't look too bad, but needed detailing as well.

While at first I thought of converting it to a Khorne titan, I decided to leave it loyalist after all, to accompany my Knights of Draconis and their allied Savlar Chem Dogs. The color scheme was then chosen to be Draconis white/blue/gold, and I also wanted to add extensive battle damage and weathering, to represent a Titan fighting in Virgus campain, which took place on a toxic world suffering from Nurgle infestation. It also promised to be a good excuse for piling miscast Plague Marines under its feet

Here it is as shot this summer, with some paint removed and a statue added on top as a mock-up of what's to come ^^

Compare this to pics of the original model (not mine):

I did extensively modify the model over the following months, most work being filling and repairing numerous miscasts, straightening bent barrels and adding detail to flat surfaces. I also modified the head a lot, shaping it more like Marine helmet as well as replacing the ugly grill with a 'breather' styled like knight helmet faces.
Realizing that painting that with a brush would ruin the model, I did them commission my friend Under9 to do an airbrush paintjob of it, and he did it well! Here are photos of the model fresh from under the airbrush, as I received it a few days ago:

Now I'll go with my brush on all the small detail and golden parts, and afterwards it will receive another airbrush job for battle damage and glow effects. It will also get a few printed banners, mainly to cover the arm joints.

What do you think?

I know this is necro at this point, but I really love your breathing new life into the armorcast Reaver! I personally usually go for the more modern styles, but I like the way you ulked out the upper legs (well, covered them over) and changed up the mask to give it a more individual look.

Curious about the statue on top, though. I don't see it in the painted pics. Will it be around later?

Also, I'm guessing the splatters on the armor are mud or blood, but they just seem like an accident more than anything.

Thank you )

The splatters are spots of rust, done with the 'salt weathering' method - salt applied to the model with primer layer still wet, then airpbrushed main colors over it, and finally washing in hot water so the salt melts, leaving very realistic patches of what looks like scrapped/damaged paint.

But sponge weathering works just as well )

Will post more pics of the statue once I have it repaired, it survived a fall from the top of the titan ))
