Hi guys, fairly new to Necrons and i have played CSM mostly so im looking to do a list with 2000pts of Necrons and about 500pts of either Chaos, Tau or Orks.
I have no idea on what to do for my ally group other than add more troop choices, but i have a decent idea of what i want to do for my Necrons

Troops
12xNecron warriors
night scythe
191pts

7x Immortals
Night scythe
219pts
total for troops: 410pts

Fast attack
3xwraiths
2xwhip coils
125pts

3xwraith
2xwhip coils
125pts

7x scarabs
105pts
total for Fast attack: 370pts

Heavy Support
Monolith
total for Heavy support: 200pts

Elites
5xDeathmarks
95pts

5xlychguards
hyper sword and disp shield
225pts

c'tan shard- not sure about this guy. i like the s7 t7 but idk if worth the points
gaze of death
transdimensional thunderbolt
280pts
total for elites: 600pts

HQ
Overlord- with lychguard
warscythe
resurrection orb
sempiternal weave
phase shifter
190pts

royal court
Cryptek (harbringer of dispair)- stays with Deathmarks
veil of darkness
60pts

necron lord - either with immortals or warrior
warscythe
res orb
phase shifter
sempiternal weave
135pts

cryptek (harbringer of the storm)- either with warriors or immortals
lightning field
35pts
total for royal court: 420

Total Pts: 2000

I was thinking for allies to have a bunch of boys and a warboss
or some cheap CSM leader and a bunch of base CSM

any advice would be appreciated

Well here is a few suggestions for your necrons.

1. I wold combine the 2 wraith squads into one big squad (larger squads seem to survive longer). and be sure to keep your whip coils in the back until your ready to use them.

2. for your c'tan there not as powerful as they used to be but they can be worth it if you arm and use them right. With mine I take times arrow and swarm of spirit dust. Basically during your setup put him in terrain(preferably in a building) so he benefits from stealth and hopefully night
fighting will be in affect which if in a building is a 2+ cover save. then send him after there nastiest stuff ( demon princes, hive tyrants, terminators, etc) and time arrow them. Do expect him to die every game though. And have the wraith support him as well.

3. I'd put both overlord and lord in the licheguard unit. there really is no point in putting your lord in either warrior or immortal squad

4. I'd drop the monolith and take two annihilation barges sense there more worth it then the monolith

Hope this helps .

Phatom got it pretty much spot on. Only two things I noticed myself; You dont need the Sepiternal Weave if you take the Phase Shifter on the Overlord. Pick one or the other. The C'tan shard could be dropped, at a 2000 point game, its a big liabilty and it requires alot of points to make the model work. If you must have it, I suggest building a list that has it at its center.

Trayzn goes very nicely with Lychguard too I might add. His downside is that he suffers from lack of an invul save, which is fine. Throw him in (if you have him) a Lychguard unit with their own Night Scythe. To keep him in the battle should you face an opponent that likes to call challenges, give the unit a lord with a War Scythe, MSS, Res Orb, and Phase Shifter to handle those while Trayzn lays waste to the rest of his models via the Empathic Obliterator. The combo is quite nice as he goes hand in hand with the Lychguard units with his special rules.

Beyond that, list looks good so far. :3

Xzerios- Your quite right about only using either the Sepiternal weave or phase shifter, personally I'd take the weave since 2+ armor is really good in 6th and you can always take a look out sir against ap2 shot's (I missed that one lol).

And yes c'tan are expensive but I still think they can work if used correctly.

I forgot all about Trayzn.

Hey guys, just reporting back that the game i played was just a game with some friends and it was a 2v2 game. on one side it was Eldar and Impguard vs Dark eldar and my necrons.
The Dark Eldar and Necrons were the clear winners.

it was a pitched battle with 3 objectives. deployment was dawn of war. impguard and eldar deployed right up to the edge and forced us to deploy back a little but that didnt help them.

i ended up taking a 21 man squad of shoota boys and a 15man squad of 'ard boys and a warboss as my orc allies. The 'ard boys and warboss held an objective the whole game. also had a dakka jet which always does well.

I still took the monolith due to not being able to get the barges in time and it horribly failed but that was the biggest loss we had. i deep striked it in to an area where i wanted to unload the 10 warriors, lychguard and overlord but they ended up having to walk on from the edge of the board and did nothing the whole game but march up to a objective that the c'tan and wraiths were clearing out.

i did use the 6 man wraith squad and they took out a large squad of guardsmen, and also finished off an avatar. my c'tan with pyreshards did one wound on the avatar before he charged to his death against my wraiths. the avatar had 2 wounds done to him by dark eldar jet bikers before though but that did give us slay the warlord since the avatar was the eldar players warlord.

i got first blood with the wraiths killing the guard squad early on.

i had a 6 man squad of warriors in a night scythe that took out a squad of dark reapers. that was a huge plus.

my immortal squad and a cryptek with the voltaic staff took out 2 leman russ tanks behind enemy lines once the night scythe dropped them. and my deathmarks supported them a bit there also.

dropped them behind emeny lines due to the cryptek teleporting them and killed 8 out of 10 howling banshees in one turn.
they then proceeded to get shot up by a wraithlord and then got charged by the remaining howling banshees and wraithlord but they did enough damage that i was not worried about losing them.

all in all i feel the necrons are more durable and have more options than my Chaos army which i so love. i think ill be playing necrons more and more. they played so well.

i will be taking barges next time and possibly 2 doom scythes because this battle had lines and lines of eldar and guardsmen to get with the death ray but i didnt have one.

the monolith i have no longer has a spot in my list.

it will go collect dust on my shelves along with rhinos since they killed my berzerkers with that change.

thanks for the pointers guys. I will be adjusting my list more and more especially with the few changes i made due to your comments on it. they worked great.

once again thanks for the pointers.

i also took away the phase shifter on the overlord. you guys were right. it was not needed with a 2+ armor

oh and the list was a little different.

had a 6man warrior squad in night scythe

10man warrior squar on foot.

6 immortals with a cryptek with the voltaic staff.

5 scarab bases which harassed a chimera due to entropic strike and got that blown up much easier.

the c'tan had gaze of death and pyreshards
both the lord and overlord has MSS also, neither had phase shifter, just the weave

that was about it

One last thing. The only full squad I lost the whole game was that deathmark squad, and only vehicle was the monolith. I was very surprised at how well they did in battles.
