Subject: heavy destroyers or harbingers of destruction?

Hi dakka , wondering about the pros and cons of taking heavy destroyers or lanceteks in a necron list?
Heavy destroyers seems pretty nice-T5 jump infantry with lascannons-but i have also heard of using a royal court of lanceteks to fill the same role of long range shooting. I'm kind of a necron newb so i'm wondering if there is any clear winner between the 2. Using a list right now that is more or less an AV13 spam list with a pair of triarch stalkers.

Crypteks of any flavor depend on your use of HQ's Personally I run D. Lords so having any RC members is not an option for the majority of my lists. But if you are using foot-cron spam the Lancetek is much better just because it can be shielded by LoS and just having a meat shield around it. Plus it's ever-living so it is much harder to take our than a Heavy Destroyer.
You mention wanting to run Triarch Stakers, my I simply suggest you up grade to Heavy Gauss options as a 3rd alternative.

I've run the AV13 spam with a pair of stalkers. It does work well having ghost arks with min sized warriors with 2 lanceteks in each. The problem nowadays is that the chariot overlord isn't the best option to unlock the courts.

No, but some of the named ICs aren't so bad anymore.
(I regularly take Zahndrekh along, now. he's proven invaluable time and time again. Trazyn isn't bad, either, what with being scoring. in a list with Stalkers, even Anrakyr might be decent, what with getting a chance to reroll his Arrow... just not Imotekh. his storm will get in the way of your long range weaponry)

Thanks for the replies guys! My army runs 1 overlord and 1 destroyer lord as the HQs so i'm pretty much limited to having 1 royal court full of lance-teks hijacking a ghost ark. Would this be a better option than a 3 man heavy destroyer squad? I like that crypteks are cheaper than the heavy Ds so i could use more but i'm worried this is just a huge target that my opponents will bend over backwards to kill quickly.

But that's just the thing: they CAN'T kill it quickly.
they're in an AV13 skimmer that has jink saves, with excellent range, so should be safe from melta.
if you've stuck a Chrono-tek in with your four Destr-teks (as you really should), you've got even more survivability.
the only real issue is the price difference.
