Hi Guys

I am considering selling my prized Scibor sculpt mini and would be interested in knowing what you guys think. It is unique, and was made before Games Workshop slammed the IP hammer down on him for infringing on copywrite laws. So it has loads of DA goodness and would go with any great DA army....

Cheers and Happy Hunting....

If you bought a resin cast of the mini, then it's now worth far less that what you paid for it due to your paintjob.

If you bought that actual sculpt, then it's worth even-more-than-far-less-than what you paid for it i'm afraid.

Hmm, did I just pull a Bilbo then?

I meant to say that, no matter what, with a paint job of that standard (no offence meant), you will be lucky to shift it at any price you think of as reasonable. Unfortunately, unless the paintjob is above average, it will always devalue the mini.

Good luck to you though, Groo. I'm sure there's someone out there that would treasure such a unique model.

Unfortunately I have to agree with Orki. I believe the pre-law suit sculpts are some of Scibor's best, but there were many and to make a good investment on this mini you would have to strip it. I am afraid to say that if it is a conceptual sculpt still and not a resin cast then you are SOL. With miniature sculpts and modifications of this caliber, people expect a paintjob that does it justice.

Yeah, unfortunately this paintjob is below par to warrant any substantial increase in price beyond that of the original model. If you're looking to sell it to get rid of it, go ahead. If you're looking to make a chunk of change, I'd just keep it.

What if he stripped the paint off before selling it, would it be worth more then?

Depends if what he strips it with/in disagrees with any modelling compounds that are used. There is a risk of melting and deforming, glues coming unbonded etc.

If all goes well then, aye. But this is why those that would be looking to purchase it would be put off even more. Time and hassle, and at no guarantee that the cake is in good condition underneath the icing.

If the OP does it himself (well) than he will likely recover more $$ than if not at all, or done badly.

You take's yer chances with sculpts. They are made/commissioned to be painted or cast (if legal of course), and are not commercial hobby products, and future-proofed stripping-resistance was not a likely criteria at the time of sculpting.

Gorgeous miniature, poor paint job I'm afraid. If you got some simple green, you could strip it safely. Unfortunately resin can be difficult to strip especially with Super-glue and GS in there. I won't post up any recommendations because I don't want any come back.

At your own risk have a look on google at stripping resin techniques and then decide yourself.

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

Hi folks

Thanks for the feedback. I had done a poor job initially on the mini and have now sent it away to be professionally stripped and painted. It is all GS and a truescale marine at that so I feel its worth putting some money into it

Thanks again for the comments and I will post updated pics of it when it returns

Cheers and Happy Hunting

I love and have some of Scibors mini's, i didn't realize he was sued at all. A lot of his stuff still goes very well with GW minis either way.

I recommend stripping it with Biostrip. It's awesome. and you can use it on plastic or resin no problem.

What about green-stuff? The picture at the top of the thread has alot of it, and sometimes things safe for Resin and Plastic, destroy Epoxy-putty. Or is this model completely Resin? If so dunk away and strip that bitch.

It definitely needs to be determined if it's a master or a cast, a cast can be competently stripped, the master is going to be dicey based on different materials needing different chemicals.

Really not keen on this one I'm afraid, strip it down if you want to sell it.

Green Stuff will typically turn soft and mushy and even fall off when stripped in Simple Green or other fluids.

Consider trading it, if you're still in the Miniatures hobby. You can often do better that way with unique models, at least in dollar value of figures recovered.
