Hey Dakka,
I recently got my friend into 40k and he has been talking about playing orks for some time. I had him pick up the codex and he can borrow my brb until he really gets into it but since I ont know much about Orks i figured that I would ask all of you on where to start. What are some good HQ's? and if to go green tide or in transports and what not. Also is the battleforce worth it?

Boyz before toyz. Orks lives and dies by its troops, and they're damn good ones. He should have probably around at least 40 boyz for even a small list. A KFF mek and lootas from there would be solid purchases as well, giving you a nice little core to build up from.

Those units are helpful in almost any situation, so regardless of whether he wants to do a battlewagon convoy, trukk spam, or green tide, he will always be able to use those models.

If at all possible, make sure you make shoota boyz, not sluggas. Shootas are a lot more flexible and in 6th you need all the dakka you can get.
