Yeah, I know. It's kind of crazy.

I'm just wondering what kinds of public storage you use and what the interiors are like.

I put half my collection into public storage when I had to move on short notice:

Basically, from what I can tell, there's two main kinds. Conditioned space (c/w heating and cooling) and unconditioned space (temperature is exterior ambient +/- a few degrees. I bought the cheapest kind -a 4x6 locker, unconditioned, and rented it for 6 months. The unit had a row of about 20 lockers, consisting of concrete floor and block walls. The conditioned space I looked at was pretty much the same, except part of a large building that had heating / cooling.

Dunno if that helps.

It helps.

I've asked before and gotten similar responses. Just wondering
if anyone has any pics this time around.

I used one for gaming and such. It was climate controlled and a bit smallish. It had a large opening, about the size of a single car garage door. Held lots of stuff, but the facility was not 24 hour storage. Also, double check your homeowners/renters insurance to see if and how this property is covered if something does happen.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

While not for minis, I've known a few people who rented storage space for assorted reasons. My basic impression is that they were basically extra garage space. If you wouldn't feel comfortable putting something on a shelf in your garage, don't keep it at a store-all place. Weather can seep in, so don't keep stuff near the door. Mice and pests can also be an issue, so keep everything in sealed plastic bins. The cold and heat can do bad things, if you live in an area with extreme weather. I've seen storage places in Kentucky summers and New York winters, and would not want to subject my armies to either.

More expensive, climate controlled space would be better for sensitive minis, but the impression I get is that those spaces are a bit pricy.

Before you decide to put stuff into storage, ask yourself if it is worth the cost of rent to keep it.

I would keep it in climate controlled storage personally. Also would ask yourself if the cost of the storage is worth the cost of keeping them if you are not playing often enough.

I would try and find a storage solution in your house first if possible, unless you are leaving the area for an extended period on business or something.

I have a large locker at a nearby Big Yellow Storage facility. It costs £75 a month, which I don't like. It is air conditioned and I get 24/7 access.

However, it was a temporary measure while I was living in a small flat. I will close it at Easter and move the contents into my house.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Maybe I will stick to trays and only consider public storage before
a big move.

Actually something like that did happen. Dave Arneson gaming collection was bought at a storage auction because of indifference of his family.
