Beast of Nurgle
|
Hey everyone I really like the FW Hades breaching drill and would love to take some as allies for my Nurgle CSM list so was wondering do people use them and what are your opinions on them. I really like the sound of their rules and probably plan on taking a Psyker and maybe 1-2 veteran squads with a Hades drill attached to each plus Mabro of course just to mess things up even more have got a good idea of a chaotic conversion for the drill as well as most of the veterans and mabron. I feel the drill is like a suicide tank that deep strikes in the midst of the enemy hopefully killing a few before a couple veteran squads pop out to blast any survivors with a variety of random stuff but would be nice to hear peoples advice.
Just sucks you can't attach it to any squad or any squad can arrive from the hole you make as I would just take as much as possible attaching them to my zombie hordes or plague marines to get right in the midst of the enemy.
Cheers

Be sure you're aware that it was updated in Imperial Armor 1 Second Edition.
It's a good vehicle, but I'm not sure that it's worth all that much as a unit to build your allies around. What are you going to take with it?

Here is the Forgeworld FAQ link in question.

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time. |

Old rules, its been updated (and hellah nerfed, still good, but not awesomely awesome broken anymore), you need Imperial Armour - Imperial Guard -Second Edition or something, basically the first book in FW site.

It's unplayable garbage, you mean. The squad sucks now, it isn't scoring anymore, and it's pretty much a guaranteed mishap on arrival unless you bring it out safely away from any other models and waste the whole point of having a Hades drill in the first place. It's been crippled so badly that "the molds broke, let's kill sales so nobody misses it when it's out of stock" is the only plausible reason for what they did.
Now, if you can convince your opponents to let you use the pre-nerf version of it instead it's an amazing unit and well worth taking IG allies for.
These rules are obsolete and have been replaced by the ones in IA1 second edition, where it has been changed completely.

Another valid reason not to buy forgeworld, they are so heavy handed it makes it pointless to buy. Glad I sold my 3 drills off last year, I would have been uber pissed.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

I had no issues with it... simply sent it at infantry rather than tanks, 2 squads of engineers with demo charge and melta bombs can then take care of the vehicles.

Its been updated again ,bugger I just was going to take it as a fun unit as I have a Skaven doomwheel even though don't play skaven so thougt ith would make a cool hades drill.
I was going to take it as this for allies
Primas psyker
2 Priest with eviscerators
Mabro
2 veteran squads with grenadiers, shotguns, 2 meltaguns
each with a hades drill attached
Maybe a vendetta or Leman russ as well
Chances are I will still use it but use the old rules as most in my club don't really mind plus I only have access to the old set of rules not this new edition of it and probably wont get it for a while.

Unfortunately it gets even worse against infantry, with only D3 hits (and therefore D3 maximum casualties even the dice don't hate you) you're extremely unlikely to clear enough space to arrive safely, and then you mishap. It's pretty much a guaranteed mishap on arrival unless you arrive on the very edge of a unit with only one model nearby (and then waste the attack).

Just make sure you openly tell them you'd like to use the old rules because the new rules make it significantly less effective, don't just quietly bring the old rules and pretend the update doesn't exist so you can win games better.

Yep. If you fail to clear enough area for the drill to arrive without being within 1" of an enemy it's a mishap. Good luck clearing enough infantry away with only D3 hits.
And no more small blast?
Nope. The blast is only used to determine which units take the D3 hits, it's no longer a normal blast weapon.
Well screw it, I'll stick with how we played it.
Just be sure to make it clear to your opponents what the situation is and don't just keep using the old rules for your own benefit.

The rules we were using are: Str 8 AP 1 Small melta blast when the drill comes in, if it fails to destroy a vehicle or a building (I guess a bastion) then its suffers a mishap with -2 on the roll.
Engineers arrive on following turn as per the ''Follow up attack'' rules.

First of all, I didn't post the complete rules for the unit, I just posted what was relevant to the discussion.
Second, I posted partial rules as part of a discussion about the unit and how good it is, not as an answer to "I'm too cheap to buy the book, someone tell me what it does so I don't have to". I really hope you can see the difference between these two situations.
