Hi everyone! I have set myself a goal of painting a full 2000 point army by the end of 2013. This might not seem like a feat for many of you, but with three toddlers running around, a full time job and a wife wanting at least a little attention, that only leaves me a couple of hours a night if I am lucky. The army I have chosen for this project is the Dark Angels. I mainly chose them because I had a Dark Vengeance set laying around, and I think all of the new models are freaking awesome.

I have no real plan as far as how I want the army to play on the tabletop, but plan to paint and play with whatever I think looks good. That having been said, I am looking to do a combined arms force, with a little bit of each "wing" included. I have also chosen to base my army on the 5th company, so I will be painting all of the company markings as appropriate.

With all of that out of the way, here is a picture of the first combat squad about 95% done. I plan on doing woodland bases to match my game table. Sorry for the crappy pic, I'm stuck with using my iPad camera for the time being. Comments and criticisms welcome!

Just a small update. I've finished painting all of the bolter marines in my first tac squad. Tonight I started on the Sergeant. Here's where I stand after about an hour of work:

Hopefully, I can finish this squad before the end of the month!

Looking really nice. Robe is looking good. I hope mine turn out that well.

Good start - I'm hoping to get some 1st Legion guys underway soon as well

I did get a DV Tactical squad, but decided I'd got for a more custom build approach, so waiting on the generic box set. Plan to use some of the DV pieces though.

mate, the robes are looking pretty sweet on this! I've just started my Dark Vengeance box set too, I've had it since launch day just gathering dust haha

Hey guys, just another small update today. The Sergeant from my tactical squad is done! Only the plasma cannon gunner left!

how come he looks different? The sergeant I got with the limited edition set had a face and a chainsword. Exactly the same stance though

That looks like a good start to an army. Painting a whole army in one year can be hard for anyone, needless to say you with three offspring and a woman to take care of.

I like the bloke you have painted with the big club-power- whacker. The effect on the end is good and I like to see that you will take time to add details like that and not just rush through so you can say you got it done in 2013.

Very nice minis. I've got a similiar project started (link in sig). The Dark Angels are a very cool army and gives you the chance to paint many different things. Keeping an eye on your progress.

More orks and Dark Angels in the P&M section. Feel free to leave a comment, trash it, cheer me up, lurk or : http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/423220.page#3790852

And the first Tactical squad is done! Minus the bases. Not sure how I want the bases to look. Any suggestions? My first idea was to go woodland, but I'm thinking maybe I'll mix it up this time. Anyway on to the pics!

Good work You can justifiably be quite pleased with those.

What's next? More DV stuff or another Tactical Squad?

Keep it up anyway!

Since my troop choice is practically done, I did a little work on my next painting project, a Librarian. I love the DV model except for the way he held his force sword, it looked so un-natural. I went ahead and changed the pose up a little bit. I just can't decide whether he looks better with the banner or without. Thoughts?

I like it with the banner. Helps him stand out (and above).

I'm going to get DV soon so I can top up my Chaos army but later in the year I'm also going to start Dark Angels. =)

I'd say with the banner, for sure.

Banner, banners are cool and aren't used nearly enough.

So, I was all gung-ho to start painting my Libby when disaster struck: fuzzy coat primer! This forced me to buy another Librarian model to start over. In the meantime, I have started on my second troop choice, ten sniper scouts with a heavy bolter. Here are two I have almost done.

These are probably the best faces I've done.

I like this camo pattern, but the camo shade from GW brought the colors down a little too much, though it doesn't look THIS dark in real life.

Been doing a little more work on my scouts this week!
