Just thought I'd put in an official request for completed sculpts to be allowed in the P&M showcase.
I understand the need to keep WIP stuff out due to the nature of the forums here, but I've found that nobody bats an eyelid at finished sculpts in the P&M section, as it's primarily geared towards Q&A and helping others out with problems and goals etc.
I feel it would be much more suitable to allow finished sculpts to be shown-off/discussed/critiqued in the P&M showcase, as they are for all intents and purposes, well... finished.
Any input guys?

I can see the merit in that argument. But I can also see how this might lead people to post unpainted conversions, kit bashes, and other glued together models. They are "finished" converting them after all.

I feel it'd remain best if painted. Most sculptors have a P&M blog anyway, and as d-usa said, it prevents floods of mashed and mangled plastic lumps from entering the Showcase before they're actually finished with painting.

Yeah, we discussed the idea of including 'finished' models that weren't painted (given how much stuff I do never gets painted, I'm a little biased in favour ), but felt that it took away from what the showcase was supposed to be, as it would just result in people posting unpainted stuff.
For the moment, unpainted sculpts and conversions just go in the normal P&M section. If it gets to a point where it looks like there is enough demand for an 'unpainted but finished' section, that may change in the future.

How about a sub-forum inside the P&M showcase? It would allow the current functionality of the P&M showcase to continue as is. It would also separate the completed P&M sculpts and conversions from all the endless questions about Devlan Mud replacements, and it would allow those of us with finished works to get some interaction going. It would also improve functionality as a forum browser too - a place where we can get stuck into all those cool conversions! If implemented as such, I can't see a reason for it not to work. ???

We dont have subforum functionality in the forum software, so it is not possible to add them without excessive work.

Ahh ok, thanks Legoburner.
How about just adding a 'Construction corner' (or whatever you wanna call it) to the main P&M section then.
So we'd get -
P&M q&a
Painted Showcase
Construction Showcase
Blogs
Tutes
Are there any other reasons that I don't know about which would prevent that being implemented?
Or are Insaniak and I the only two here that would like to see such a section maybe?
I'm jumping the gun here, I know, but if the logistics and back end work aren't too much hassle for this, then maybe a poll (ooh goodie, a poll! a poll! ) would help see if the interest is there?
Thanks.

The reason we wouldn't do something like this is because we try to keep the # of forums down to the absolute minimum possible (within reason) to ensure that every forum is as active as it possibly can be.
The amount of people who sculpt compared to those who just paint is low. Then on top of that the amount of people who sculpt and then want to show off their sculpt without painting it is even lower. Especially as in most cases people can (and do) just post a pic of the completed sculpt without paint along with the fully painted pic (in the showcase forum) when they are finally finished with it.
I have no doubt that if we were to make a forum specifically to show off sculpting that it would increase (slightly) the number of threads dedicated to the subject, but realistically it would still likely be a very slow forum.
Instead, we do have the basic P&M forum and if someone puts in their thread title that they are showing off a 'finished' sculpt and looking for comments then they're likely to get nearly as much feedback as they would if we had a dedicated forum to the topic.

While my op was a bit misleading I admit, the suggestion was intended to be for sculpting and scratch builds too. If you consider this, then I have no doubt that it would make a significant impact on the post distribution. P&M moves very fast in my opinion, and Q&A about hobby advice seems very far from showcasing scratchbuild and sculpts/conversions. Of course this is all moot if the decision has been made already. Cheers for the input, Yak. I'll let you get back to taking over the world, now.
