Now i know they may/may not be competitive but `nothing seems more appealing than having several of the behemoths on the field at once.
Now i understand there are multiple books that have king tiger lists, i was wondering whats the difference/cost of the different lists? and which book they are in?
any info will be helpful.(this is late war)

Grey Wolf uses them in their Schwere Panzerkompanies; cost is definitely a factor.

They appear to be a bit cheaper in Devil's Charge when running Kampfgruppe Peiper lists. The skill level off-sets the points a bit, but you can run a good number of them in a list in this book.

I run them Earth & Steel and Grey Wolf. Fun list, very limited platoon count but choosing the right combo of platoons helps to offset that.

so if i went with the company in the grey wolf book how many kings can i get in one army? I do realise im gonna have to support it with pioneers or something(will have to look at the actual list to decide)

You might want to reconsider King Tigers....They aren't good for beginners for the following reasons:-

1. Ridiculously expensive Points wise (Only Confident Veteran)

Konigstiger (henschel)

1745 points you can field 5 (in Grey Wolf - pg 71)
1 in a HQ + Berge Panther
2 in a Combat Platoon
2 in a Combat Platoon

It's a Slow Tank, with Slow Traverse, no-protected ammo, and no wide tracks, Oh and they are overloaded so you need to re-roll successful bogging checks.

That is it...I mean that is it! No troops, no Recce, no AAA, no artillery, no Air support, no pioneers.

This is a specialist build, I would recommend Tigers Marsch as your first build. Then if you really want to build a (Balanced force *rolls eyes*) around a King Tiger you can give it a shot.

A king tiger force, is an all or nothing force, you either win big or lose badly it's not really competitive or balanced. It can be fun to play, and depending on the TIGER ACE skills can be potent.

If you want to do it, go ahead, but it may depress you when you realise being surrounded by Enemy on all sides and shot at on your side armour makes these beast extremely vulnerable. Especially as smaller tanks tanks will have a field day if they get behind to fire on your sides.

Tigers, and all the super heavy tanks, work best when you have one or two of them as part of a larger force. Preferably an Infantry company thats bringing infantry support, AA, and volume of fire to put down enemy infantry.

Otherwise, an all Tiger/King Tiger force will either get swamped by infantry or out maneuvered by tanks.

A Kingtiger army will murder another heavy tank list, do okish against a medium tank army but get steamrolled by everything else. A platoon of 2 KTs isn't even statistically all that likely to pin an attacking veteran infantry platoon.

If I was to field them at all I would take one and use it as an objective guard who can kill just about any tank it can see.

Of course there is the 'rule of cool' but your large number of losses won't be much fun.

The two lists I run with. For an inexperienced player, this will be a tough list to win with. However, contrary to popular belief, a King Tiger list can be a winning list, though lots of game is required to find the right army composition.

1750 Points, 6 Platoons

My Pioneers protect my King Tigers and also are supported by my Quad 2cm's. The Flak Nests are bunkers and become very handy for LOS and blocking terrain to protect your Rocket Launcher battery and 88 gun. It's still a challenge as you can't afford to lose any hulls, but it works when you use everything together. Focus-fire and maneuverability are key. My Pionners tend to be the work-horse in most of my battles, but still, 3 King Tigers with tiger-ace skills is a handful against most opponents when you're using themm correctly.

Cool thanks for the replies guys this wont be my first army, i just like toying with idea as i know my friend lacks in the AT department so this would scare the crap outta him and maybe convince him to actually get some more AT
normally i am running a 1750pt romanian tancurii medii list with 15x Panzer IV's and a AA platoon with 4x mitral guns and 2x full vanatorie blindata platoons(half track troops)

Let us know haw you get on, to be fair I have moved over to Panzer IV's as for the price they are awesome. Same with Stug Heavy lists, if you go up against Heavies the only option is to flank them and get those side shots.
