I'm working on a Pre Heresy Emperor's Children army. I figured I'd start with the
HQ: Saul Tarvitz. Note that this is very early work, with maybe 50% of the painting complete and a LOT of touch up is necessary.
In
HH:Betrayal, Saul's equipment includes a sniper rifle, grenades, bolt pistol and a sword.
His main body is from the
SM Command Squad. Instead of using regular shoulder pads I went ahead and used the champion ones as I think they look cooler. The sniper rifle came from the scout sniper box and the sword is a pretty standard one. Also, I have a base coming from
Dragon Forge. Its the Urban Wasteland 40mm Herioc base.
Determining the base is always hard with
GW figures. Sometimes they use the smaller 25mm, sometimes the larger 40mm. I haven't quite figured out why they pick particular ones and as there isn't a current Tarvitz model I figured an
HQ should be on a 40mm.
Basically, I followed the
Forge World paint guide that they put out.
For the head I used a mix of bone (vallejo) and Ceramite White followed by a wash of Serphim Sepia. Having looked around, I'm probably going to greenstuff a bit of hair and lighten the skin tone a bit. It looks a bit unhealthy..
One thing I wasn't quite sure about was whether or not oaths were pinned onto the armor during that time period. So I need to do a little research on that and potentially cut those parts off.
His pose is one of anger towards Horus' fleet in orbit. Basically I was trying for the scene in one of the novels where he is standing outside waiting for the second bombing to wipe them out.
I've struggled a bit with how to represent the sword. It's not a regular powersword so lightning effects are out. At this point I'm thinking the next step is probably to just put some blood/gore on it.
Right Side:
In person, it's hard to see the crack around his right hand where I had to cut the fingers off in order to attach the sniper rifle. However, looking here I'm probably going to fill that a bit with some liquid green stuff.

Left Side:
The different silvers show up quite a bit in photos. Didn't expect that at all.
Front Left:
I'll run another coat of white on the tabbard, then I plan on recreating one of the drawings from the
HH:Betrayal book on it. Should prove to be a good challenge
