As things stand now, Phaeron special rule isn't very tempting to take. With changes to rapid fire, the reason for it is essentially gone, since assaulting with units that have RF isn't worth it.
I propose, keeping with the fluff, change it to give Phaeron and his unit Fearless or its close equivalent (allowing to make retreat in face of unharmable adversary, for example), as Overlord's will keeps his tin soldiers in the fight.
That way, there will be a way of giving Fearless to any unit that needs it - and warrior blobs will be able to hold under charge. Running down Necrons via combat result and having to kill all of them, while they get their resurrection protocol rolls (and Ghost Arcs' repair) are quite different beasts.
What do you think?

I feel as though it would be a great idea, but too many players would be butthurt about it for it to be viable. Us Necron players already take enough heat for the following reasons (including, but not limited to): -Having absurd shooting capability on relatively cheap models -Our basic guns being able to "Necron vehicles to death" (ie, glancing with blobs of Warriors) -Reanimation protocols after being blown away by a meltagun or smashed to bits with a thunderhammer -Having Ld10 across the board -Imotekh -Our Flyers and Death Rays -Res Orbs "only" costing 30 points -Having essentially all vehicles with 13-13-11 -Did I mention Imotekh?

I'm guessing you mean Ld 10, not I10?

How about this for the Phaeron tactical ability:
Tactical Retreat: Necron loyalty often act somewhat brashly hoping that their appearance of boldness impresses their allies and intimidates their enemies, and as such they will often hold the line even in a disadvantageous situation, particularly bolstered by their self-repair protocols and their ability to phase out should the damage be severe. However, for the Phaerons, there is often little to be gained by such action, and more at stake, as should an inferior being cause significant damage to their systems, they may find an usurper on their throne by the time their repair is completed (or they may just find themselves locked in stasis, jettisoned out an air lock, or otherwise permanently disposed of). As such, Phaerons are far more likely to fall back from a disadvantageous situation to 'live to fight another day', so to speak.
Whenever a Phaeron and any squad the Phaeron is leading is required to take a morale test, the Phaeron may choose to automatically fail the morale test and immediately fall back, even if the unit is fearless. If failing the test causes them to fall back out of combat, if the opponent would make a sweeping advance, the squad instead remains in combat.

Yeah, my bad, I updated that.
And (do not take this to offense) that was written just like The Forsaken One would have written it, so I think that could have a potential to work. So it would replace Phaeron altogether, or just update it?

I think Phaeron was fairly useless always myself.
However, I could see it working much like a Lord Commissar's Ld10 bubble, but with stubborn instead of the LD we already have or Fearless

I think Phaeron was fairly useless always myself.
Its use was "shooting after moving" in 5th.
Although i have seen proponents of charging with Phaeron'd warrior blobs on min-sized Terminator squads and the like.
I suppose, Stubborn in sted of Fearless would do as well.
