Hey Dakka I need your help! Me and the old ball and chain have been putting some money aside and with the phone plan we're on we can upgrade to an iPhone. Now this doesn't affect me at all as I can survive with my nice little Nokia prepay but for whatever reason the wife says she NEEDS an iPhone and so we decided she would get it.

Now the question I pose is what is better between the 4s and the 5?

The important things we want to know are things like:

Processing speed? Does the 5 run that much faster than the 4s or is the difference negligible?
Camera quality?
What are the new features the 5 offers the 4s doesn't?

Basically I need to know anything that would make one phone better than the other and I don't mean just what the ads say, I'm hoping for more like people's personal opinions on them. I really hope you can help Dakka!

You can find technical specs here which mostly seem to be what you want. The big one is Siri, which is only present on the Iphone 4S and later.

I don't own an Iphone so I can't offer any personal insight to that specifically (if you were interested in a Samsung Galaxy S3, that I can offer thoughts on.) Going from a Nexus One to the S3, I didn't find the faster CPU made any difference at all, but the voice recognition was night and day in favor of the newer one.

If it were me I'd personally probably get the Galaxy but the missus insists she needs an iPhone for whatever reason lol.

From what ive heard and seen, the difference between them is minuscule, with only a few changes.

I would suggest getting the iphone 4 as it offers almost the same as 5.

My company issues out iPhones to their employees so I mess with them 24/7. Honestly the only difference between the 4s and 5 that is noticeable to people is the screen is a smidgen longer, the phone is thinner, and the iPhone 5 uses the Lightning adapter which means more expensive accessories.

As someone who deals with them on a constant daily basis, save the extra $ and get a 4s (not a 4).

The only difference is that the iPhone 5 is more durable and slimmer than the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 costs less than the iPhone 5, get the iPhone 4.
