Sure Space Wolves Land Raider Pilot

Hey friends,

I've been playing a reasonable amount since the dawn of 6th edition. I'm a long time Space Wolf player and recently made a large mechanized Imperial Guard army. ( I did't realize how expensive that was gonna be). Regardless, I'm gonna play a game with one of my friends, who want to play one of my armies, instead of his Eldar, as he's never played anything else. Below are the two 2000 point armies I've been running lately, but I wan't to see how people on here think they will do against one another.

IMPERIAL GUARD 2000 points

HQ - Company Command Squad, Astropath, Plasma Gun x4, Chimera

TROOP 1 - Veteran Squad, Plasma Gun x3, Chimera
TROOP 2 - Veteran Squad, Plasma Gun x3, Chimera
TROOP 3 - Veteran Squad, Plasma Gun x3, Chimera
TROOP 4 - Veteran Squad, Plasma Gun x3, Chimera
TROOP 5 - Veteran Squad, Melta Gun x3, Chimera
TROOP 6 - Veteran Squad, Melta Gun x3, Chimera

ELITE 1 - Guardsman Marbo

FAST ATTACK 1 - Vendetta Gunship
FAST ATTACK 2 - Vendetta Gunship

HEAVY 1 - Leman Russ Battle Tank
HEAVY 2 - Leman Russ Battle Tank
HEAVY 3 - Manticore, Camo Netting

SPACE WOLF 2000 POINTS

HQ 1 - Rune Priest, Chooser of the Slain (110)

TROOP 1 - Grey Hunters x10, Wolf Standard, Melta Gun x2, MOTW, Rhino (215)
TROOP 2 - Grey Hunters x10, Wolf Standard, Melta Gun x2, MOTW, Rhino (215)
TROOP 3 - Grey Hunters x10, Wolf Standard, Plasma Gun x2, MOTW, (185)
TROOP 4 - Grey Hunters x10, Wolf Standard, Plasma Gun x2 (160)

ELITE 1 - Wolf Guard x5, Tactical Dreadnaught Armor x5, Combi-Plasma x2 (175)

FAST ATTACK 1 - Thunderwolf Cavalry x3, Storm Shield, Power Fist (205)
FAST ATTACK 2 - Thunderwolf Cavalry x3, Storm Shield, Power Fist (205)
FAST ATTACK 3 - Land Speeder, Multi-Melta x2 (70)

HEAVY 1 - Long Fangs x6, Missile Launcher x3, Lascannon x2 (170)
HEAVY 2 - Long Fangs x6, Missile Launcher x3, Lascannon x2 (170)

FORTIFICATION - Aegis Defense Line, Quad Gun

Now, I've had better luck with the Space Wolf army i local semi-competetive play, but I wonder how it will stack up against the mechanized guard. I usually play the wolves with 15 missile launcher long fangs, but changed this to add 4 lascannons, just so the wolf army has some chance of dropping tanks form a distance. I just want it to be a fun and close game. Do you all think that both of these armies have what it takes to deal with the other?

It could work for you, personally I always use SW more agressivly. I would say drop one thunderwolf squad and give your WG and melta squads drop pods. You can pop his tanks easy and quickly and drop wg down to shoot up a blob and distract them. I would also say get rid of the ADL normally but you need it against those vens.

Personally, I think the Space Wolves are going to steamroll that IG list. It really has no reliable way to deal with the termies, and the longfangs/quadgun will make short work of those Chimeras. The plasmaguns and LRBTs are nice against MEQs, but I'm not sure there is enough weight of fire for the rest of the guardsmen to help out much once their rides are gone. The only weakness I see in the SW list is lack of AA, especially if the guard can take out the quadgun before the flyers arrive. Since your buddy is less familiar with either list, I would let him play the Wolf list, just because I think it will be more forgiving of mistakes than the IG list would be.

On moon miranda.

Focus fire the 5 termi's and 6 TWC's first, if they go down quickly between 16 plasma guns and 6 meltaguns and manticore missiles and lots of S6 multilaser spam, then the rest of the SW army is stuck trying to outshoot an Imperial Guard army, and at that point...

Probably a decent matchup, though I'd personally say likely the IG will have an easier time executing their battle plan.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

I think the wolf list is screwed actually. The two flyers can distract the quad gun long enough to get those plasmas in range of the Termies/TWC and then its just a shooting match against IG.
