Hi. Has anyone ever tried Logan Grimnar in a drop pod filled with 6 longfangs armed with Plasma Cannons?
Is it any good or is it a big waste of points?

Could see it having some use, so long as after turn 1 you have logan leave the LFs and go do something more useful. I'd say plasma cannons are really quite expensive what what they do unless you're expecting to face a lot of terminators.

I've been toying with the idea of Logan with a squad with 2 multi meltas and 3 plasma cannons purely for trying turn 1 land raider kills. Drop pod down, use the split fire so the multi meltas kill the raider and then use the plasma cannons to kill the resultant bunched up termies. So ok, it's not going to happen often, but it'd be hilarious when it does...

this exactly. unless going against termis theres a reason why every competitive SW list has longfangs ML spam in it. You could drop him down there no issue but Grimnar excells in close combat and should be branching off to do that. Any time you use him make sure youre using WG somewhere too, its nice to have them as troops

You cant use split fire to shoot at the contents of the tank you open up, the entire unit fires simultaneously.

Ah cheers, wasn't sure about that. No great loss, it was always more of a funny tactic than a serious one.

I guess it depends on what kind of army you are fielding, but I've foot-slogged Grimnar across the board in a squad of long Fangs to some success. Something about walking forward, while firing las/plasma cannons (slow and purposeful) is just silly. If you don't need to move, take preferred enemy or tank hunter instead. Once your army has advanced far enough forward, he leaves the fangs and joins in the brawl with the Grey Hunters (and in my case Thunderwolf Cavalry). His +1 attack works well for a massive advancing CC army. I do believe that he's best used in a podding terminator Wolf Guard list, but whatever. He's a great hero, with great fluff. He can do well with the Plasma Cannons, but they don't really need to get that close. It's most imprtant that Logan is used to get his armywide +1 attack by turn 3 or so. If you aren't running an army that can alpha strike like crazy and actually force it's way to CC, I'd leave him at home. Since I play a mid-board shooty SW army, I've not been using anything but basic Rune Priests. I tried Njall once this edition.

GOTTA LOVE SPACE WOLF HEROES!!!!!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Main Point: Logan is fun to use with Long Fangs. Go for it. Just make sure to get Logan in combat, without getting the Long Fangs stuck as well.

I think if you loaded up 2 squads wolf guard with combi-plasma you'd have a better chance of damage. You wouldn't need to spend 275pts on getting them to fire once they exit either.

Yeah, for the price of the Logan/ Plasma cannon squad you could probably manage about three squads of WG with combi plasma in pods.

However, it depends on your list; Logan brings a lot more to the table than just giving long fangs relentless.

Yeah. That's what I was saying. Logan really goes well in a list full of drop podding Wolf Guard. Crazy aplha strike with combi-melta and combi-plasma, followed by using his massive range +1 attack ability, once the wlves start to get into CC. I can't remember who, but someone won a large Australina tournament a few months ago, running a Loganwing drop pod list like this. Lots of combi-weapons and power axes for the win.

Great, thank you everyone!
I will go with the drop podding WG. I will leave Logan with the longfangs, so that he can move up the field with them and still fire. Then attach him to grey hunters for assault.

I have one box of TDA WG, how should I set them up to do the job above? 4 with combi-plasma,1 assault cannon. For CC weapons should I keep it cheap, as they will Aplpha strike or should I add some SS and power fists?

I don't understand why you would pay 275pts to move one squad of Long Fangs to a firing position, when you could simply deploy them correctly in the first place. If you did deploy the LFs with good LOS of the whole table (which is rarely difficult, and the fact they have so many potential targets means they'll always have something to shoot at), then you're paying 275pts for...one attack. Pretty much over-kill.
The way you're using Logan, it'd be better to just buy more troops with the points. Hell, if you want to charge into CC a 15man blob of Blood Claws would be better.

Logan can be a monster, but the best way I've seen him be used is in an all DP army. With Logan bomb Multi-melta LF squad, then hop into combat to give WG terminators another attack. Foot-slogging lists really won't get a lot of use out of this 275pts.

Scoot and shoot without the drop pod works fairly well, but it is points heavy. In my 2500 point army I run Logan with my Plasma cannons, and scoot them into good LOS, then I give them preferred enemy. That allows me to reroll gets hot, and the inevitable 1s when wounding. Puts holes in your opponents army, but it costs!!!

Except that's not how Gets Hot! or Preferred Enemy work.

Gets Hot! With blast weapons isn't on the "to wound" it's a separate D6 roll when rolling to scatter.
Similarly, the Preferred Enemy reroll is on to hit, not to wound. Preferred enemy has no effect on blast weapons since you don't roll to hit.

If you want a "plasma bomb" coming out of a drop pod wolf Guards are the way to go.

Reread your Gets Hot! rule again. With Blast weapons and weapons that do not roll to hit, you may reroll the roll if you would normally get a reroll. BRB pg. 37, last paragraph. Also, Bjorn can reroll gets hot because he's BS6! Not the first time I've had this arguement.

The rerolls on the wound is great because it wounds almost everything on a 2+

I don't see what that has to do with rerolling wounding as you mentioned above. Things don't get hot! from wounds.
