So...

http://confrontationphoenix.com/

CMON is eventually going to Kickstart a re-launch of CONFRONTATION sometime this year.

Maybe?

Does anyone have any details on this at all?

Are ALL of the various factions coming back?

With ALL of the old miniatures?

And will this game be more like Confrontation 3 (Yay, an awesome skirmish scale game!) or like Confrontation 4 (?) (Boo, a crappy 'mass battle'-ish game!)

Is there anything on CMON's forums about this?

I'm blocked at work, and when I get home, I always seem to forget to check...

Interesting!

Hi guys, this is Matthew Hope with Blackball Games. Still recovering from GenCon where we had a great experience demoing the beta rules for Confrontation Phoenix. I'd like to take this chance to introduce myself and answer a few questions.

Duncan Huffman and I formed Blackball Games a few years ago to provide game design services to the industry as well as find an outlet for our own projects. Since our inception we've provided contract game design for Soda Pop Miniatures with Relic Knights, Cool Mini Or Not with Wrath of Kings as well as a number of other companies. I am the lead game designer for AE-WWII and AE-Bounty and Duncan has years of experience in the organized play and marketing with Privateer Press. We have been avid Confrontation fans since the early days of C2 and are honored to have been given the opportunity to tackle Phoenix.

CMON will be launching the Phoenix website in the next week or two and, once live, we will be using it as our vehicle to provide information and answer questions. We will also be looking for members of the community to help us in the monumental task of testing Phoenix with the hundreds (if not thousands) of reference cards, spells, miracles and artifacts out there. So keep an eye out for the website to go live where we will be able to address the questions and concerns that are already pouring in. I can hit a few of the questions from this thread.

- There is no release date planned for Phoenix. The rules are still in beta, so there's a lot that's still in the air.
- We're rolling back the rules and setting to the C3 book we know and love, while making some changes that focus on balance, streamlining rules and speeding gameplay.
- The plan is to stick with square bases.
- Some models will see a (sometimes significant) increase in AP value, though some costs will decrease.
- We have not finalized what factions will be released or any other decisions regarding release schedule, etc.
- The cards used in the demo are early versions and do not necessarily represent the final copies.

Keep an eye out for the Phoenix website to go live - join our Facebook page for updates. We are so honored to be working on a game that so many of us loved so passionately. I think we have a great opportunity to bring back a game that was truly great. Thanks for your patience and support!

Of course, this was posted back in August of 2012.

Even more!

CMON is giving out a PDF of the preview rules for the new edition of Confrontation to all of the backers for their recent GUILDS OF CADWALLON KS:

As a thank you to all backers, we'll be sending out PDF links to you for the Confrontation Phoenix rules and inviting you to give us feedback on the revised ruleset for the miniatures game!

The new rules capture the old feel and flavor of Confrontation while balancing and rationalizing all the powers of the disparate factions, and so far the initial comments we've been getting from external test teams have been very positive indeed!

Once they're ready, you'll receive a set of the preview rules and unit cards via PDF so you too can join in and test out the new edition!

Not sure how I missed that the first time around...

If you dig around on Dragonpainting.net there's a lengthy thread in the Confrontation: Phoenix section (Bottom of the front page). I'd link but it's work blocked.

That community is small but has a strong core of big Confrontation fans. There was some annoyance that Blackball games opened Beta testing on a first come first serve basis.
The reaction in that thread varies from negative to cautiously optimistic. The negative comments tend to cite specific concerns while the optimists tend to be of the "wait and see" variety. A good portion of the people commenting are in the Beta, so details are scarce.

Looking at the card prototype (?) I'm not impressed. Confrontation always dripped with lavish design from every pore, that card looks like something you get with a knock off toy line at the dollar store.

I haven't heard great things about the plastic/resin product that Legacy has put out so far either, and the arbitrary Limited Edition element is annoying.

I'm trying to be optimistic, but as someone that owns 4 Confrontation warbands I suspect that this revamp isn't going to be aimed at me.

That sounds... depressing...

Eh. You know we're going to get at least 30 days to see what CMoN have decided Confrontation is now and decide if it looks like a train wreck or not.

Hopefully there will be at least one honest and for true new miniature as part of the KS, so we can see what they are bringing to the table in that department.

I wish I could bring myself to buy some of the Legacy stuff now to judge the quality for myself, but I don't really want any of the monsters and any of the infantry sized minis I like are bundled with several that I don't like or already have.

I'm fortunate enough that I still get to play 3/3.5 with friends on occaison, so I get to be vaguely smug about the whole situation.

You're right, of course.

And I am jealous - you still get to play Confrontation 3!

I have high hopes for this one...

The legacy pieces are incredibly nice. They're just way too expensive.
