Among all the changes did anyone notice the change to Scrolls of Magnus? Upon acquiring a power the unit gains the pskyer rule. My question is thus, does that mean they acquire a Mastery Level 1 and the ability to use such or simply the rule of 'psyker'? I wasn't sure how this applies the mastery level rules and such. Anybody with a better insight?

Given the FAQ, I would say he gains mastery level 1 when he gains his first power. He would not go up in mastery level from there, however. This, combined with having a power and the Psyker rule, is sufficient to allow him to use most powers.

If you look at psykers, in the psyker section it says that they are assumed to be level 1 unless otherwise stated.

Level 1 and nothing beyond that I would say. It does make the scrolls at least playable. Could make a Dark Apostle or a Warp Smith interesting.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Its good to see general agreement on ML1. Should be amusing to try out now. Thanks for the input.

Warpsmith is overcosted and unplayable. Look at it compared to DA techmarine. Only thing it is better for is making someone using a heavy 20 gun, not shoot. Even then i would rather have it not take up a HQ slot, cost less the half the points, and have servitors with plasma cannons with an option for night vision!

IIRC Warpsmith also has ~6 power axe attacks in assault, a 2+ save, and a BS5 meltagun.

He's actually pretty darn good for his cost just as a combat character. His special abilities are really just icing on the cake.

You just need to realize he's not a Chaos Lord. He's not there to beat face in challanges. He minces infantry that lack AP2 and vehicles. Plus he can repair a vehicle as a bonus.

Seems like the only way it works is if he is with helbrutes/defilers going forward, he can no longer repair a DSing deamons soul crusher thing, mauler fiends are too fast for him to keep up with... ok i can still put him in a LR... but really.

He has close range attacks but support vehicles that are normally long range and he is lacking any force multiplication ability.

Now imagine a techmarine from DA in an Iron Warriors army. You have Preds/ForgeFiend/decimator/contemptor/behind a ADL, with a havoc squad (that now has night vision, with flak missiles or autocannon and a squad gun, or with Oblits gaining the same bonuses and bring down the enemies cover save in ruins somewhere. Plus annoys something that comes close with the gets hot rule.

Now that seems a lot better.
