I have recently made some fire warrior weapon teams to represent battlesuits ( I'll post pictures soon) But I was wondering what your methods for avoiding the 30-60$ crisis and broadside battlesuit models are, as in what are your battlesuit conversions (and any other tau conversions) like? Gue'la weapon teams,?floating weapon platforms? etc.

I really don't have a good answer for this. While I don't spend tons on my guys, I just pace out my budget (or spend less on other things...) like buying one suit a month or something.

But since you are honestly asking....

* maybe use a krootox as a counts as?
* put a firewarrior on a taller scenic (i.e. pile of rocks, etc.) base with a bigger gun (a plasma rifle,etc.).
* look for some robogear or battletech type minis for cheaper
* Make a giant drone - maybe out of a devilfish hatch and some spare parts?
* maybe try to make some kind of walker type mech thing they can ride in out of ig sentinel or other sourced parts?
* put a kroot on some kind of big lizard/bird toy.

best of luck, and can't wait to see what you came up with.

I will post pictures on friday, so far I've made 2 counts as broadside battlesuit models that are fire warriors manning huge guns on swivel mounts, 1 krootox counts as that I could also use as a battlesuit with burst cannon which consists of 2 kroot carrying a large machine gun, 3 deathrain/ fire knife counts as models which are each 2 fire warriors on a base with a missile launcher of some kind between them and a plasma gun for one + I made 2 Gue'la type guys that together would count as a plasma/flamer battlesuit as one guy has a flamer and the other guy has a plasma pistol and a flag which will fit tau iconography perfectly.

Not the finished product but I will post pictures when done and painted. Count as crisis suits with missile pods and later I'll add plasma rifles, its sort of gue'la technology theme for my army.

This is a Gue'la mercenenary which is a kroot as far as rules are concerned, its made from a DV cultist, just removed the pistol and ccw and added a bolter.

The 2 closest are fire warriors manning railguns which I made out of pulse carbines, pulse rifles, burst cannons and shoulder pads, they represent broadsides, the other one is fire warrior team to represent a fire knife crisis suit, he has gue'la weaponry to contribute more to the theme of my army, i thought it was fitting as they are called tau empire not tau to have some non tau personel hence the beastman guy with the plasma backpack. In the back there are my "heavy armored kroot team" to either represent a krootok or a crisis suit with a burst cannon, in the very back is just a chaos cultist conversion I did, completely unrelated.
