OK,
I had a bad year with GW last year. Lots of issues over FineCrap. (Not going into detail - it’s another topic.) I was hoping this year would be better.
I had to bay the limited Dark Vengeance off of eBay because they never shipped me mine and offered to send the game they had on hand with no refund/other actions (I did get my money back).
But I just got my copy of the Limited DA Book today - the box and the book are smashed up at the bottom of the book the plastic is split and the book is damaged.
Alright - I can still read the book, I can use it - but for $90 I expect the !@#$%^&* thing to be perfect when it gets here.
I have not called GW yet - I'm too angry and won't be calm about the deal.
Has anyone else had a similar experience with the book or is this an anomaly?

I understand your ire, but if the package is damaged in transit that is the fault of the *shipping company* and not GW. File a claim with the shipping company. Would be best if you still have the box it came in and can take photos to submit with your claim. If the shipper says a non-insured type of shipping was used then go to GW and complain about it. First course is the shipping company, though. GW has no control over what happens to a package once it leaves their warehouses.

Also, call GW and advise them. They have great replacement policies and customer service. Automatically Appended Next Post: I mean, I hate to be a jerk and interrupt the rant, but at least call or contact either of the parties before posting the 'OMG THEY SUCK' post.

I respectfully disagree. It is GW's responsibility to pack and ship the items in an appropriate box to arrive to the customer.
I should go into more detail - there was no shipping material in the box. The box is really too small to have shipped the book without packing material. Material at the bottom, top and/or around and the book at a 45 degree angle - like my Limited Edition Rule book was sent (box was dinged a little - book and the shell - not damaged at all.
GW does have the responsibility to properly pack the items.
I even tried to get insurance but they would not provide it for an APO.
I'm really angry about the book - so please don't take as a re-direct at you. Thanks for the response.

I never understand the whole 'Something bad has happened. Quick! To the Internet!' You call the retailer or responsible party and hash it out with them first. Then, if they screw you, you complain. Right now, you have nothing to complain about. For all you know, they are going to send you a free puppy and a battleforce for your troubles.

I point out - I haven't talked to them - becasue I'm angry. I'm not trying to go they suck becasue they are GW.
Its just thier practices of properly packing and shipping are leading to more calls about things not being shipped, shipped poorly.
They used to have pretty good policies - but lately I have to say I'm not seeing it.
Also -I'm asking if anyone else has had this issue and cooling off before I call angry - that won't make things better. This will calm me down.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
@ pretre
For the 20 plus year I have been a GW customer - I have never gotten anything free. (I never expect to and have never asked - maybe I should.)
I do think I am entitled to complain about paying good money - and then reciveing damaged goods. Granted - I have not called yet to give them opportunity to fix it.
After I calm down - I willl call them tonight.
I do want to know if anyone else is getting poorly delivered items lately.
Not happy about the solution. I think I will be getting out of GW products all together.

Everything I've ordered from GW has arrived immaculately and in a timely manner, no qualms, no problems. All models are really well packaged, to the point that shaking the box doesn't move them around the box they are all in, and when I ordered the rulebook, it came via courier and was, again, immaculate, perfectly packaged. Maybe it's just the US shipping centre, but here in the UK, everything is just peachy in regards to Games Workshop deliveries. As far as I my personal experience goes.

I will admit the UK center has always been awesome for me. A few times they had stuff the U.S. center did not.
I'm just not happy with them - I have bought hoping and expecting for things to improve.
I just can't stand paying so much more to buy from the UK andhave delivered to me in Europe and pay the VAT and the rest.
Somtimes it comes out to be cheaper using eBay.

I ordered the 6th edition rulebook from them and a few other items, when it all came through Fedex they had packed it all together and there was to much space so the book bounced around and got heavily damaged. I called GW and told them how unhappy I was about it and they sent me a new one with their fastest shipping and the mailing label to send it back to them at their cost.
Just call them and talk with them calmly about it, remember the person who is on the line has done nothing wrong and getting angry wont help the situation, though telling them calmly that you are unhappy with the situation is fine.

@ cvtuttle Wrong - I don't think you are following. It is GWs repsonsibility to pack the item properly. THEY - GW - did not pack the items properly - no packaging materiel in the box. They usually do pack things well. I always expect them to. There is only one carier system for me to get my mail. The local postal system is so corrupt FEDEX, DHL and others are not being used becasue packages go missing. (In this case sterotypes are true to form.) I even asked to get insurance and was told it is not available. So - it does fall back on GW and GW alone. They cannot replace what they do not have - I am screwed out of what I paid for. I did calm down and call them - now I'm even madder than before. GW sucks now - they are not the company I used to know. Thier business practices are not what they used to be. I love how the comments are calm down - they will take care of you. I consider myslef lucky to get my money back - but my bank will do that any way. Regardless of GW helping doing it willing or not. I used to have great luck - nothing for years was wrong - when there was it was fixed promptly. Lately - not so much. Recently (about Jun/Jul 2012) - I ordered a set of items - they packed it well the box got wet and mildewed before arriving. It has lots of Finecrap in it - it was wet and the box broke open. I informed GW, got the USPS stamp and paperwork. I had to show pictures of what had shown up and what had not. I was calm and honest about it. 2 out of 8 items were missing. They finally sent me a box - it had one item in the box with an invoice for two. This took three weeks -then another 4 to get the last item. Nothing free, nothing we were sorry - I did not ask for it. But there comes a point when perception becomes reality. The DV fiasco occured after this. So although, I'm no longer out my $90 - I am out of the LE DA book I ordered. So I am angry and resentful - there is no way to make this up to me. I don't liek the way busniess is going - I really think I'm going to sell my miniatures - the love is gone. @ TheAvengingKnee I have looked people in the eye who have tried to kill me and then calmly talked to them. I've done it for the last few years in Iraq and the 'Stan before that the Balkans. Dealing with a CS weenie - its not an issue for me. I do conflict resolution well when I want to or have to. If you read my post above - you'll see I already know that. Having an attitude with a person who can help - does not usually go to well. I got mad got on here and asked if anyone else was experieng problems with orders - looks like there are. looks like its not an anomaly from the posts of yeah somehting happened to my order they will fix it. No one else has said they had LE DA books with issues. If they had anymore LE Books - maybe it could be fixed. Its not - I'm left with a felling of betrayl/resentment that is not the first time in recent history with GW that I have paid for a LE item and not recieved it or not recieved what I have paid for. So no matter what some one says about being calm - GW will sort it - no they did not. I am angry with thier business practices, shipping practices. I was a long time DA player, and GW supporter. Many of my friends have turned away for similar reasons with GW. Until recently I had not expeirenced what they have. While I acknowledge people trying to help It also says above I was not happy with the way things worked out when I called them. I did not go into detail. So here it is above.

Over the past year or so I've had 4 or 5 of my WD issues "go missing" in the mail.
One of those was the VC issue that contained the new rules/rules update prior to the army book last Jan.
The Customer Service rep not only sent out a request to see if there was an additional issue laying around they could send to me, (as that issue sold out), but he added 3 additional months onto my subscription since I'd likely be out rules for my army.
I'd placed one order last year that was accidently shipped to me via Fed Ex, (which being Canadian, it should have been UPS), and not only did Fed Ex try to ding me for delivery charges AND try to refuse delievery even AFTER GW took care of the issue, but after a month they wrongly sent a collection agency after me demanding re-payment, (which GW had already made), while threatening potential legal action if I refused to pay-up. (turned out to be another Quebec scam...)
GW Customer Service sorted everything out, and even called me back after a month to ensure I was no longer recieving angry letters demanding $38.30 in penalty fees.
Yesterday I got my DA codex, and not only was UPS a day late in delivering it due to their own stupidity, but the box was fully ripped open down one side and the corner of my codex kicked-in.
I called CS and asked if I could simply exchange it when I next visit my "local" GW store, ("local" being an hour train/bus trip - and that's just one-way!), and was told it would be no problem.
Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience, but in my own experiences, Customer Service have always gone above and beyond to help me out in correcting not only GW's own faults, but all the cluster -ups care of Canada Post, (@$$holes the lot of 'em), and terrible shipping services.

Experiment 626,
Thanks for telling me your expereince with GW CS. All these people who get free stuff seems great. Wish I had been one of them. My local GW is about two hours away and isn't English. Plus unless there is a receipt for them in this country they will not exchange. I ran into that issue with Finecrap my wife bought in Germany at a GW there.
The USPS (better than UPS anyday and most of the time FEDEX, DHL is just as good) usually takes good care of my packages. Provided that GW has packaged them properly.
I have had boxes come and they have been partially smashed up - only open them and find they were packaged well with no issues.
I must agree Canadian Postal system is jacked up.
I ended up stopping my WD sub because it would arrive all torn up. (You used to get free stuff for re-newing). Issues were way late, several issues were lost - they said it was becasue I changed addresses so much (military = sometimes a year to 18 months). They never offered to do anything but send a replacement (sometimes they had none) but I never got issues added.
But to be honest I'm still mad about the deal and jealous that others actually get something free from them.
Until this time I have never asked for something free to make up for things. Mainly becasue offereing me a regualr edition and partial refund just seemed hollow to me. The guy and I could not reach a good deal in this.
I felt something free be tossed in for the diaspointment and loss on the LE issue. Nothing has ever been offered to me in the past. I come from the point that if I get what I paid for in the end there is no issue. But with all the people who say free "puppies" and stuff get thrown in by GW - I think its tales of Unicorns right now. I've never seen it - guess I never will.
Have you ever asked them for something and gotten it or did they offer it.

Legally it's GW's responsibility to the customer in the EU to ensure the item arrives in a fit state within a reasonable time. GW might have their own agreement with the shipper to reccover costs for bad delivery (so it's the shipper's responsibility to GW but not to the customer to make sure it arrives in a fit condition).

Oh boo hoo! My overpriced limited edition gaming rulebook got damaged in shipping and big bad GW couldn't magically make one appear out of thin air to replace it and had the audacity to send me a regular rullebook and give me a refund as if that makes up for it. Really?? That does make up for it, exactly. Your freebie is the shipping cost to get you your replacement rulebook, which may not be the one you originally ordered, but after the refund it *will* be what you paid for in the end. Are you sending the damaged book back? If so then that shipping is also probably free. If not, well then you get to keep a slightly damaged LE book for free. So what exactly do you want again? You seem just as pissed off now even though they are sending you a replacement book and giving you a refund. Honestly, other than an apology, that is all they really owe you. I really doubt that the customer service troll didn't say "sorry for that" during the process either, so you've gotten exactly what you were owed. I am really sorry they didn't throw in a free battleforce because your book got some damage.
As for free things from GW, it seems that at some point they realized that the costs of maintaining replacement bitz separately for all of their kits was costing them a lot of money and it was cheaper to just send an entire kit out to replace missing parts, than making kits just to pay a grunt to open up and separate out all those different sprues all day. So usually when you contact GW about parts missing from your kit, they will send an entire kit as a replacement. Found this a surprising way when I had an eldar warwalker kit that was complete except for the clear plastic sprue for the canopy was missing. Contacted GW and they sent a replacement. Turns out the replacement was another complete warwalker kit. So I pretty much got another complete war walker out of the deal when all I wanted was the missing canopy. So I mocked up a replacement canopy and enjoyed my extra war walker. I would have been perfectly happy with just the canopy parts, but the whole kit was pretty cool.
It all comes down to this: This is the real world. Sometimes things don't go the way we want them to in the real world. When that happens we have two options: 1) complain as if it is the end of the world, when all that happened is that a gaming rulebook got damaged or 2) We accept that sometimes it happens, be happy that GW gave us a replacement book and a refund and move on with our lives.

At least GW doesn't quibble over refunds either provided you have your sales reciept.
More and more stores nowadays simply offer you "exchange/store credit within 'X' days of original purchase" BS.
Found that out the hard way today trying to get a refund on a defictive grooming product I gave my dad for Xmas... That's $25 I'm never seeing again, and the store isn't even sure they're getting a new shipment to replace the fething defective piece of crap either!
GW's prices and/or certain practices may not be what we want them to be, but overall they're one of the outright best companies in terms of how far their CS goes to try and make-up for whoever's fault something is.

@ Skriker
Really?? You miss the point - I did not get what I paid for and the discussion was to find out if anyone else had the problem and calm down before calling when I was angry.
I'm not asking or expecting sympathy - just a place to vent my frustrations.
I am not getting a free regular book - I already have one coming (at a 20% discount so another one from GW was pointless - so I declined it to get my money back). Had they offered a free regular and the refund - not an issue, but they did not. So you are making a leap [and violating ASSuME here ] So I get my $90 back - but now if I want the Collectors Edition for my collection it will have to be off of eBay. Which I don't look forward to because that will cost more. So your points are all moot in the end - I did not get what I paid for - I have a broken book - that GW won't sell to someone else anyway - they will just end up writing it off for tax purposes.
Also, the troll said "That's too bad - we'll square you away with another book." I said "Wow, you have another DA LE Book to send me - that's great! The website said you are out." Where upon the reply was - "Oh, yeah I see that now - we're out of those..."
So there was no sorry, about that. I have had them say sorry about that in the past, not this time. Not that sorry alone would really make it up to me.
You should really read the posts before jumping to a false conclusion to base an argument on. (ASSuME above.)
As I state in the title its a rant. Boohoo -
I did not get what I paid for. They can't replace it. The damaged book is a collectors item - it does me no good to have a book with the spine is broke at the bottom of it. Over time the pages will become loose at the bottom. For some people this maybe OK - "Hey I got a free book!" got it. I'm not one of those, if I pay $90 for a book - it better be perfect. Period.
The overpriced Collectors, Rulebook was awesomely packed. The box was dinged - I got it stamped and marked took picture of the outside prio to opening - it turned out perfect inside. No complaints. I never asked for a battleforce I never expected one (or a puppy either). A coupon for future orders would have been fine and/or a blister of a miniature and I would have less hard feelings about it.
Yes I'm upset/jealous that something other than the refund is not provided given how others seem to be getting free stuff So I got my money back - there is no net loss unless I go for a "perfect" one for my collection of GW books and use eBay. I had to do that with DV - because they never shipped one and ran out. I got my money back but lost money buying from eBay.
I like to keep my stuff nice. Yes I can use the book to game with read/see what differences there are if I keep it. The point is I did not get what I wanted and paid for - there is a reasonable expectation to get what you paid for in reasonable time and condition.
I have not decided if I'm shipping it back or not. I had to show them the pictures of the box and the book to prove it was damaged and there was no packing material. Which I was told was a mistake that it was not wrapped/packed properly.
This is the first time I have ever asked for anything free from GW - I got turned down. Since they could not fill the order I don't think that was outrageous.
Yes - I was mad and am jealous others are getting free stuff. I feel slighted- no dancing around it. I don't see a broken book as a plus/freebie. I usually can see an upside - here not so much.
All of my replacement orders have been the parts damaged/missing, replacement sprue with extra bits has happened once for a Demolisher - never a new kit. Nothing free - maybe I don't spend enough. Maybe its because I have never had a big order go missing. I almost always have delivery confirmation/tracking.
@phatonic - figures that is the extent of a norwegians input. Bud in with nothing of value to add. Much like the support to the Balkans mission sets.
@Experiment 626 The receipt and GW CS is not universal at their stores. I found that out in Italy with products my wife purchased in Germany. I had to get GW UK to fix the issue on the finecast - whereupon I got the exact parts - not sprues or whole replacement blisters. Which I have heard/seen complaints about in other discussions - so I won't derail.
My recent personal experiences with GW and the CS could all (most of them) be avoided if they focused on proper packaging and attention to detail. There will always be some shipping issues. But I guess that is another topic.
I used to defend the GW CS mainly because I had never experienced anything like I had heard from other friends until lately.

PanzerTC sorry to hear about that but with all my years of delieveries from GW I am talking well over 100 i only have had 1 bad case.
I ordered the spray gun, the black chaos spray, Spray Gun Propellant, alot of paints and brushes but when it arrived the box was badly damaged and all the air bags and such inside was destroyed which caused the paints to leak the brushes to be ruined and some broke and lets just say the cans looked like they would blow up. I phoned my local gw store and they replaced everything even if it wasn't damaged so I got extra on my order but I am from the uk and they have IMHO the best customer service of any company i have ever used.

@ Puretide1,
Thanks for the sentiments. No one else has chimed in on my question regarding poorly shipped/damaged DA LE Codex - so I guess it is an anomaly.
The first 10 years I was buying from GW - I had only two minor issues. Some miscasts that were malformed. I got replacements for the two miniatures - one was a pewter Space marine and the other was a pewter Blood bowl Undead figure. I got a small packet each time with one figure to replace the damaged ones.
I used to order between 8-12 times a year from them. Enough to get the free shipping, get the 'KEWL" new minis/special order only deals. I've ordered items from GW less and less each year. Somtimes buying larger amounts at one time as my $$ has increased and not spreading it out - others becasue I could get things locallly from people I like dealing with.. I'm down to about 4 -6 a year since about 2009 and on the verge of stopping completely becasue of recent experinces.
In 2010-2011 I was in DC for my masters and work so I usually just hit up the GW store or had it ordered to come in there - the store would check my items before calling me to pick it up. One of the order was incomplete and they worked it out and provided me on from the stores pre-order stock of a blister for chaos 40K.
2012 was the worst year ever. I'm not kidding or exaggerating here - every other order was jacked up in some way. I made 7 orders total. Three orders - no issues exactly what I ordered in a very timely manner. Four had issues - the most I have ever had with GW in one year. The previous was 2 involving miscasts/missing parts.
#1
I ordered 4X of the 25th anniversary kits(2X Australia, 1X UK and the 1X US - availability online). Three are for some for buddies in Afghanistan who did not want to deal with shipping there. I bought 2 in a GW store in Italy.
4 of the six had sever miscasts. I cross leveled the problems down to 2 miscast banners, 2 miscast heads and 1 malformed body that the majority of the upper torso was melted/missing. (IIRC - I might be off on one of the bits - not sure.)
I got exact replacement parts (nothing extra spruewise or itemwise) I had to show them all the sets in one big picture and break them down to show 4 of each (2 boxes are still sealed for friend coming home this month). I then had to handle issues separately - Italy issues in Italy (GW Store could not- they sold out. Understandable) X1, Australia issues with Australia X1, UK for both the UK X1 and the U.S. X1. I had to show the receipts/order numbers for each respective country purchase and resolve them with each country. I tried handling it all with Italy - but that was too difficult and then jumped over to the UK.
I honestly expected them to take care of all the issues in one go - but they had me handle the issues with each country I ordered from. Something to do with who ownership or something with Italy and Australia. I'm not to clear about this explanation that I got.
#2
There was a minor issue with items missing from an order.
They were ok - I got the document/pictures showing the box had become wet and some items were missing. Took some time but I got what I ordered.
#3
A huge Rant (I will not re-hash) on how they never sent me my Limited DV boxed set. (I'm a DA player - these things mean something to me.)
GW's proposed solution didn't work me - I already bought two other boxes (20% off) and did not need a third one without the Limited Character. I got one off of eBay - for more than I would have from GW. I got my money back - but lost money from eBay.
#4
My wife bought some Finecast in Germany from a GW store there. There were some issues with some of the castings (beyond a some greenstuff to fix).
It was a pain to get pictures and scan the receipt in at the time - I had just moved and had no internet access.
I got exact replacement parts for the issues I had and I considered it closed.
My overall satisfaction ebbed and flowed as I received things last year. This LE DA book was my first 2013 order with them and it is following my last the DV debacle.
As I have stated - I am jealous that people are getting items for free. The keeping of the damaged property/broken – its more cost effective for them to write items off than invest/lose further money on retrieving it.
Also - there were no GW Stores where I grew up and very few in most of the countries I've been stationed in Asia or the rest of the world. Most don't have hobby shops that carry more than traditional models maybe some D&D (WoC) products.
I had a wonderful hometown local store that if they had a GW product in stock - they would replace the item themselves and they would deal with GW. That happened three times in over 30 years of shopping there. They stopped it over a year ago because of the Finecast issues.
I love Europe - because there are usually stores of independent stockiest or a few GW stores.
I liked DC because there were two stores close (1.5 hours from where I lived) - now they have downsized one to a hole in the wall (in a mall area that has a bad reputation for violence, gangs and drug activity) and the other was never very big to start (after 6 people take up the table the store is full).
A lot of the stores in Germany I used to buy and or play in are gone because of the economy and price increases by GW. Of the 7 stores I found in 4 regions I was stationed - 1 is still in business other than the GW stores themselves.
In over 6 years stationed in Germany - I had only two issues with what I bought in stores (non-GW) that I had to get fixed with GW direct. German GW stores wouldn't take the items unless they were GW receipts. I don't have an issue with that - it was a little more time consuming – but I got the items replaced. Which, at a minimum, I expect.
I had one maybe two mail order issues - which consisted of incomplete orders of bits before that went away. I got the missing bits in envelop/packets.
I have had a better experience with Forgeworld (I view this as separate and distinct from GW completely). I have had some issues - never had to send in pictures/receipts - I have had order numbers asked (reasonable) - they have sent me entire models to replace issues with the castings I've had. But those have been few and far between. My issues with them have been late order fills or partial fills with late (more than 8 weeks) arrivals.
I've never had anything tossed in with these orders - I have not hear of anything from FW being tossed in for my other friends. Now please don't take it as a "whine" to get free stuff. But I really think and feel that if the company does not deliver on legitimate order that has been paid for, as in the case of Limited Edition Items, GW should have a freebie/discount policy to keep the customers happy.
I used to be real happy with GW - but after being one of the first ones to order both the items and not get them - it's very disapointing. I've lost money on one item - doubtful I will go after another LE DA Codex and lose money there.
Granted I am an addict to pewter/resin/plastic - nobody holds a gun to my head to buy them. I just don't have the "happiness" factor I used to have with GW.
I just feel jaded by my recent purchases - I've never had two back-to-back issues with GW. 2012 was the first every-other order year I've had. Out of all my orders over 20 years with them (about 200) - most have been miscast/missing parts/severe shipping damages - but the last two just seem to have pissed me off. Normaly I shrug it off and drive one. This time feels different.

Panzer as a fellow DA player i can understand the frustration of your LE Codex being damaged would have made me extremely upset.
It seems to me like you have had one of the worst runs of luck I have ever heard of. I hope your luck improves brother as there is little I or anyone on Dakka can probably do to help you.
Well thinking about it if you want or need an extra Seraphicus model i have one still on the sprue and i'd be happy to send it to you.

@ captain collius,
Thanks for the input and thank you very much for the offer, but I do not need another DA Serphicus. I have two of them now.
I picked up one boxed set off of Ebay (I overpaid - but got free shipping ). And another soldier near me sold all his 40K stuff to me. He was leaving the military for a return to civilian life and just wasn't into the Dark Angels or Chaos like he thought he was. He had one and a lot of other minis for a reasonable price.
As for my run of luck - with GW yes. In life over all - I am very lucky most of the time. I generally think a postive outlook helps generate positive returns - negativity returns it in kind. A Christian view with a little "Karma-Like" flavoring usally serves me well.
Believe it or not - posting this, helped me out. I clamed down and then did not lose my temper with the guy I spoke to. [It's not like he was the one who jacked it all up. At least no proof. ]
He did play with my emotions when I thought he had one - then I crashed like a Fiat into oncoming traffic while trying to make a third lane in the middle of a two lane strade statali to pass a blue hair driving slow (and me). Which I have seen as recently as yesterday - he had BAD LUCK in decision making. I try to go on the side of caution.
I do have a temper usually takes a lot to make me lose it. But suffer not the fool/idiot who angers/insults me I give as good as I get. I also have a low tolerance for extreme incompetence or stupidity. Which I feel GW has become lately - my experiences with them.
My frustration (HATE-LOVE not Love-Hate right now) relationship with GW will either continue the addict-dealer relationship or it won't.
