hi everyone,
so im just curious of one thing for the moment, however im sure ill be back for more in the coming months seeing as i am about one week into deciding to take up warhammer fantasy.
like in 40k space marines where you can make your own chapter's, can you do something similar in fantasy with any of the races?
(Ogres and elves are the highest priority atm for my choices and this is purely due to i like how the models look, as far as lists go ive never been one to choose something that is considered OP, i like loosing battles as much as i enjoy winning them.)

Thank you for taking the time to read my wall of text.

Most of the armies have a way for you to fluff your own chapter.
For High Elves you could say they are from a certain city, a smaller island, or a warband roaming around pretty easily.
I don't really know about ogres as I don't play them.
But some of the other main ones are Empire where you can have them being from an area or city, Dwarves are various holds/clans, and Skaven are made up of various clans. For Chaos you could do the same as with the ones listed above.
That is one of the great things about fantasy, you can fluff it to however you want it to be.

Also Ogres and High Elves are pretty good armies.

With Ogres you can make up your own Tribe. Each Tribe is led by a Tyrant and his bully boys called Bruisers. Then there are the spiritual leaders called Slaughtermasters and Butchers. They are both Priest, Cook, and Magician.

Competitivly, Tyrants arn't great so you will be using a Slaughtermaster as your general.

Elves depends on the type.

High Elves are pretty much divided by city so you could say your army is from a city somewhere in Ulthuan.

Dark Elves also divided by city, each ruled by a Drachau.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.
