Early last year I tried to get into Lord of the Rings SBG, with some success. This year I'm trying to keep the momentum going and also learning the new 40k rules, having not seen an edition since 2nd. I have yet to be tempted into playing Fantasy!

I prefer dwarves, goblins and orcs in LotR SBG (though I am a fan of the setting in general and like almost all the other armies and models to some degree on that basis!) as well as Tyranids and (lapsed) Eldar. Currently I'm trying to figure out whether to balk at the $69 price tag on Biovores on the GW store or not - that price for a brood of three could be a lot of cool LotR minis.

I'm not a super accomplished army painter and I'm trying to improve in that area through a combination of reading, practice and sitting in Games Workshop stores painting.

So, hello to all of you!

Hello! Thanks for posting.

Biovores are really expensive, but if you like them maybe get 1 or 2 and some LOTR minis so you dont feel like you just spent a ton on getting all 3 biovores at once, and you have more minatures for the $ you spent.

What I'm struggling with is there are all these cool creatures that I'd like to collect and try, but I hear repeatedly that they'll only really be effective in broods of 2 or preferably 3. Especially on the heels of LotR SBG, it's just... okay, a finecast model of Glorfindel, say, with mounted and foot versions, costs about the same as a single Zoanthrope/Venomthrope/Hive Guard or similar model, but he's a really cool unique model. The Zoanthrope is a really cool model too, but being told I need to get another couple that look the same and do the same thing (and cost the same amount as another Glorfindel each) is, well, a bit rough.

I'm not sure how to really deal with that yet, especially as I don't think I have a good grasp on why they really need to be in a larger brood in this case. Is it just because of the victory point structure (giving away First Blood more easily and creating a higher VP total for the kill scenario)?

Thank-you for the suggestion! I think I will do that, since the biovore is pretty cool and I'd like to have at least one to play around with regardless of whether it's optimal.

Go on eBay there will be way cheaper biovores there. Then you have some money left over for LOTR.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
