Hi guys, I'm looking to buy about 3 KR cases for my armies as I currently have them on shelves... long story sort my Dad's a bit of a jerk and doesn't care about my stuff.. so I'ma put all my stuff in cases.

I'm just wondering about the "cardboard" case, vs the metal ones... the price difference is massive, obviously. What I'm asking is... is it worth the extra dough for the metal case, or are the cardboard ones really good?
Ive had a GW plastic one, for like 6 years and still fine lol. So I want long lasting stuff... and any tips for tray sizes ect, I have 4k skaven army, 3k vampires, and a fast evolving Chaos Nurgle army.

Any tips/help will do :3

Well the cardboard cases are supposed to fit inside the canvas bags for carrying about, so if you're planning on travelling with them I don't know how long a cardboard case would really last.

If it's more for storage, or you're happy to buy an external bag as well, then it should last years (I think my oldest might be 5 years old now, and the others are about 3).

Dunno about tray sizes though as we play wildy different games. KR used to have downloadable tray templates you could print out and compare to your figures - it's worth noting that KR foam is soft enough that a figure who is slightly larger than a compartment can be made to fit easily enough.

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

There is more than one metal case. What you want to check is how many KR units you need.

If you're using it mainly for storage, I'd probably go with a canvas bag (that's the "Kaiser" bag.) They come with the cardboard pieces (so if you take a KR3 canvas bag, that means it's a bag that fits 3 cardboard units into it)

The canvas ones also have pockets for army books and the likes.

As for durability, it depends. I love my metal case, but if you're going to be stacking other stuff on top of your bag (like if it's in the back of a moving truck to get away from dad's oppressive regime) then the cardboard ones can take more pressure than the metal one. It's not exactly bulletproof metal.

If you're gonna store it somewhere moist, the metal one would probably be prefered... but don't do that.

Point is, if there will be accidental bruising of the case, then the Kaiser bag with cardboard in it can take more of a beating than the metal cases.

But for just taking it to my friends and back, I like the metal case.

I've got a carbboard case for my IG. It's withstood enough, it isn't as flimsy as you'd think.

One thing that's putting me of getting another case though is the size of the foam holes. Cause my guys have got arms and melee weapons they kinda get snagged and break apart. Only happened a few times in the half year I've had it though.

I'ts not just a little confusing, until you get the hang of it it, it's a god damn mystery.

What you have to realise is they work in something they call KRU, which is to say KR units.

One KR unit is a specific size of tray, and is exactly what one cardboard can hold. You'll see that some foam-pieces will take up 1KRU and some might take up half of one and so on.

If it takesd up half a KRU, then you can shove 2 of those in one cardboard box. Pretty simple stuff in theory.

The good part is, you can sort of guess your way through it, and count up what you want, then send them a mail. They'll tell you if you don't have enough or have more units than your bags will be able to hold, or if you have mismatched so it won't work.
