Finally after a long time out I'm back on the 40k bandwagon and, not messing around, I'm already signed up to 2 tournaments. the first is 1000 points with the following restrictions: one HQ max, no more than 2 elites, fast attack, heavies, no more than 2 of the same type of vehicle. The second is a more competitive 1800 tourney. I've tried to write the lists to be all round (though assaulty ofc) and not to smell too much of cheese. I did ponder long on my eldar/DE but especially with no more than 2 of the same vehicle i think my Blood angels are gonna be the best choice, plus Horus Heresy novels really put you in an astartes mood anyway here goes, feedback welcome

1k Points

HQ

Reclusiarch
Jump pack
155pts

Elites

Sanguinary Priest
jump pack
75pts

Troops

5x scouts
camo cloaks
snipers
rocket launcher
100

10x Assault Marines
Power Fist
melta gun
inferno pistol
240pts

5x death company
thunder Hammer
Inferno pistol
jump packs
220

Heavy Support

Stormraven
200pts

Total: 990pts

Thoughts: debating swapping the stormraven for a squad of terminators, probably with a heavy flamer, or 10 devastators with 4 rocket launchers. Note that I havent actaully bought the stormraven, my ideal budget is 30 quid for new stuff, but i'd stretch for the flying deathbox

1800 Points:

HQ

Libby (with terminators)
termie armour
125pts

Reclusiarch (with Death Company in stormraven)
jump pack
155pts

Elites

5x terminators (teleporting)
2x xhainfist
Heavy flamer
205pts

3x sang priests (one with terminators, one with assault marines, one with devas)
jump pack
terminator armour
210pts

Troops

5x scouts
snipers
rocket launcher
locator
110pts

5x scouts
combi melta
melta bombs
locator
115pts

10x Assault Marines (possibly deep striking)
power fist
inferno pistol
melta gun
240pts

5x Death company (in Stormraven)
Thunder Hammer
Inferno Pistol
220pts

Heavy Support

Stormraven
200pts

10x devas
4x rockets
210pts

Total: 1790pts

thoughts and feedback welcome

1000 pts is too low for a stormraven. That's reserving 20% of your army, and virtually all your firepower.

DC with jump packs are a disaster at every point level. They simply don't have the defenses to justify 35 pts a model.

Consider giving the priest the powerfist and making the assault sergeant a challenge monkey.

For the 1800 pt list:

Never transport anything in a stormraven. Ever.

I don't see a teleport homer. Or a locator beacon. You need these to maximize teleporting terminators efficiency.

You have 10 meqs and 10 models in carapace armor for scoring. That seems light to me at 1800 pts.

Again, dump DC. Especially jump DC are a disaster. They will get shot and die to torrent. Remember they are no better defended than schmucks with a priest nearby.

I hate MLs, but if you cut the devs down to 5 men, they are passable. I guess.

At 1800 points, you'll need MM or lascannons or both. Get some that aren't in reserve, as your stormraven may spend the game shooting at flyers.

Never bring two marine HQs below 2500 points. Marine HQs are mostly a tax to bring models that are actually good.

Addendum: since you are new to 6th, the BA got their assaulty bits chopped off by 6th edition. For a variety of reasons I won't go into here unless you want me to. Plan on shooting a lot more than in 5th. If you want to be competitive, that is. If you don't care, then it doesn't matter.

note both scout squads have locator beacons in the 1800, i should make that more clear

Points taken on board, Ive only heard good things about DC but my current unit ive only used once in a game, what would you suggest as possible alternatives? I could swap them out for a 10 man tac squad in a rhino for sieze and control, I could also possibly get an aegis defense line if i lose the storm raven for the devas. Tacticals could then take a teleporter homer to assist the terminators more maybe. I could swap the DC out for standard ASM too for scoring purposes. The rocket launchers are slightly by necessity of my collection but I could scramble 2 or 3 lascannons which would indeed increase their potency. Without the DC I'd probably drop the chaplain over the librarian but his buffs could be useful for the assault marines maybe?

Thanks for the feedback

Sorry, I was blind on the beacons. So they can infiltrate and then the terminators bring shooty death. That's pretty legitimate. And put power fists in people's faces.

Yes, dumping DC for scoring guys is probably a good idea. Not as flashy, but that's a lot more meqs that have to bust down to prevent you from scoring. DC is great until you get an opponent that knows how to deal with them. They are horrible at taking fire on a per point basis, and if they get assaulted, they are not much better than regular ASM. This can happy easily after being forced to assault a sacrfiical squad. Also, LRs give terminators the same charge range as a jump pack.

The reason I hate MLs is not just random hate. The new vehicle chart only yields kills on a "6". AP3 gets no bonus, so MLs are often resort to stripping hull points. This is demonstrably inefficient with a ROF 1 weapon. And I think that frag missiles are kind of weak sauce as well.

Don't misunderstand. At 1800 pts, the stormraven is fine. In fact, it's very important flyer defense. (Heldrakes are another unit that make DC look *stupid*) But if you put units on it, they must start in reserve, and they turn the stormraven from a 200+ point target to a 300+ point target. For 300 points or more, good opponents *will* find a way to do three hull points to an AV 12 vehicle. Because the crash results basically instagib everyone on board.

Also, 1800 point lists you face can contain things like dual vindicators. Ever try to take out vindicators with meltaguns? Yeah, it sucks. That's why I love me some lascannons, even though they cost a little extra. They are worth it to get AV 13 targets off the table at a safe range. They also do double duty as anti-terminators, which krak rockets can not do effectively.

I will also warn you that's its hard to make good all comers lists for BA now because our HTH is so weak compared to 5th. Because there are fewer matchups where we can dominate in HTH, this makes decision making hard. Myself, I bring lots of fast vehicles and drive away and shoot. I'm rather like DE with power armor, because too many armies now beat the BA straight up point for point in HTH.
