I'm new to cygnar and I am in the process of purchasing a cygnar battle box. What types of tips and tricks have you learned from playing with the battle box and are there any essential models that are must have?

The Charger and Lancer are probably your two most important models, IMO. Arcing a close range Earthquake to knock targets down, then drilling them with shots from the Charger's gun is one of the best ways for the box to get caster kills.
As for must-have models, the Junior Warcaster is pretty high up on the list. It gives you another source of Arcane Shield, and if it runs a jack, frees up Focus on your warcaster. The Squire is the second thing I'd look at, as an increased control area and an extra point of focus every turn is huge.

People often forget how deadly the Charger's gun can be. Remember that casting snipe on it gives its gun a 16" range, and if it doesn't move it gets a +2 aiming bonus.
I went with the Black 13th as my next purchase after the battlebox. Not a "must have" unit per se, but they are a very useful toolbox unit with good rules and tricks to augment the battlebox.

Quick question, are long gunners able to fire 3 shots, if they do not move, with dual shot?

No, a weapon can never go above its ROF value. The Long gunners can only make 1 shot if they move, or two if they stay still. They're good if you want an area of the board that you don't want your opponent to put infantry in though, just don't move them much if you want to get the best out of them.

Except of course when you have an ability that says "Ignoring Rate of Fire" of which there are several (though I can't remember off the top of my hand if there are such abilities that would apply to long gunners.). Anyway, core Cygnar stuff
*Gun Mages
*Black 13th
*Squire
*Journeyman Warcaster
*Arlan Strageways
This is all stuff you'll get miles and miles of usage out of. Some stuff like the Squire & Journeyman Warcaster are fairly close to auto-includes. In Cygnar 'Jack Selection is hugely depedant on caster more so than in other factions. You also might want to start eyeballing some frontline mercs as Cygnar is a bit wanting in it's jammer/tar pit selection.

Good list. I'd add Defender on there as well. alot of casters like one, and if the caster doesn't the ATGMs w/ UA do.
And probably some sort of infantry screening unit. But there are a bunch of those available.
Otherwise it depends alot on what caster you want. Certain casters have must haves that work great with them.
Also hard to go wrong with the Stormwall. But it is alot of money for a starting player to invest.

Do you guys think it is a good idea to have a squire and a Journeyman Warcaster in a 25 point list?

pHaley's Feat is the only one that comes to my mind at the moment.

Yes. It's good to have a Journeyman & Squire at almost any points level. That low the Journeyman is kind of more-optional than he usually is just because you may have no real use for a 2nd Arcane Shield or 'Jack but you could certainly leverage it in plenty of lists. Particularly if the caster you brought doesn't have Arcane Shield.

Though neither really apply to long gunners, eHaley and Sloan can both make things go above RoF too.

Depends on the caster, but the squire should almost always be included.
Jr. Depends on the caster. Also depends on if you spent have B13 or not. For one mroe point you have much more bang for your buck, especially at smaller points value. Generally I'd say don't get too much support at 25 points.

There is a site which analyses the squire as opposed to sylyss wyslysys-something, you get who I mean, on a caster-by-caster basis for cygnar. I think they do a pretty good job, I reckon it is well worth having a look at. It is called lost hemisphere, but I can't find the link to the exact article at the moment...
