I'm not a fan of lore of heavens with ogres. I use a lvl 1 fire belly. I would also take runemaw banner and standard of Discipline.

Grey Templar,

I too am headed to the BAO! I hope we get to clash on the table!

A few thoughts...

Why bulls over Iron Guts? Are you trying to be nice and have a different approach to the typical gut star?

I'd also be a bit concerned about slapping 2 wizards in that small unit of iron guts. IT just screams "OOO OO FREE POINTS HERE!!" I'd look to split the wizards. One pit of shades or purple sun eats just about the whole unit...

I take bulls over IGs for several reasons.

The same number of points of each tends to show that Bulls are more durable than ironguts in the long run, and I like to play an attrition game.

Bulls and IGs are also about as equally effective against T3 infantry. The IGs are only superior when you start hitting chaos warriors.

And finally the Bulls benifit from more buffs. Bullgorger is almost useless on IGs, but amazing on Bulls.

@cgage00: Heavens is an amazing lore for Ogres. I roll my Lvl2 first. If I roll Wind Blast I always swap for the Sig spell. But the other spells are quite useful. Harmonic Convergence is practically another Dragonhide Banner. Curse of the Midnight Wind is also pretty cool. Forcing the reroll of 6s to wound and armor saves in particular.

Say against yout typical Str3 5+ save opponents. That spell is forcing them to reroll half their successful wounds. And often their only successful saves.

Thunderbolt and Chain Lightining arn't super spells, but they are still decent offensive spells.

Comet. First I rolled this in a game I took out nearly all a Goblin army's warmachines and seriously damage his Araknarok. This spells is just sooo amazing and so much fun.

Iceshard however is even more awsome. -1 to hit rolls and your leadership. Given our armies poor WS it helps to reduce the hits we take. And the -1 to Ld is also pretty cool. It effects stubborn opponents, helps on Fear tests, and multiple Iceshards stack!

I support your decision to use heavens. I think it is a fantastic and highly underrated lore. I'm still a bit concerned with your bunker though.

Where are you located? Perhaps we could meet for a practice match sometime?

I really like this list, its nice to see both Ogres and Ironguts in core, doing such you have a decent chance of making a favourable match up for your units.

I like the CoC on the Slaughtermaster as well, having potentially two units of stubborn Ogres can make a real mess of an opponents battle plans.

Also Lore of Heavens is great on Ogres, having two casters potentially throwing around Iceshard Blizzard is great as the WS of Ogres isn't that great so having opposiing units at -1 to hit is a great bonus, plus Harmonic Convergance can really make a difference to units re rolling 1's.

My only concern is that you only have 3 combat blocks, I would personally try and fit a 4th in, even in the form of 8 Leadbelchers and Bellower

Sooo many easy points for my Ironblasters to snag. Or any army with cannons or decent offensive magic for that matter.

Still, you got balls to take not just one but two guys on Eagles.

Worse case scenerio is you lose the Prince and Noble turn 1, Lion Chariots turn 2, and then the Eagles. Could be slightly slower if multiple wounds have poor rolls. Don't count on Iceshard to save you, thats only a 50% chance of stopping 1 cannon(assuming it gets cast)

Never fear! I play against 2 iron blasters, 3 Empire/Dwarf Cannon, and 2 Warp Lightening Cannon type list all the time. There are a myriad of ways to help mitigate the damage from cannons: Fence, Wall, barricade, etc

Joking aside, its a different list, and yes cannons are the hard counter but what warmachines do elves do well against anyway?

If your cannons miss turn 1, i'm in combat turn 2.

True enough. Odd ball lists can win.

There was that wood elf list that had 7-8 units of 5 glade riders that did surprisingly well in the final line up last year. He didn't get totally demolished.

Indeed, remember that heavens also provides excellent damage output. So i'm not just trying to lock down warmachines, but to get after them and remove them.

Urannons, Chain Lightening and Comet! That's also why i decided on the Ring of Fury, Bound lvl 3 for 2d6 str 4 hits? Yes please!

i've also got 25 shots in the shooting phase, while not overly impressive, its still enough to reliably pull a wound here or there.

12 shots @ long range means hitting on 4s meaning 6 hits and 1 wound on average... not terrible.

I live in Brentwood maybe 10 miles away from where they have the Bay Area Open, I am not in a position to play but may stop by and say hi.

The last time I went was 2 years ago... /queue the harp music... I was new to the hobby maybe a year into it, my local GW store manager when I told him I thought about going was like dude go check it out. So I went and it was cool but I quickly learned it is not a spectator sport, I walked around stopped by a few table to watch the game play being new to the hobby I thought it would be a cool learning experience but people would like at me like WTF do you want? So I ended up leaving a lot sooner then I planned so I didn't go back last year. Would like to go meet Johnny though he really inspired me to make my Beastmen army which I am in love with.

Johnny do you have a blog for your beastmen/CD? I'm curious to see some of your strategies with beasts... i've considered them time and time again for another army... just simply haven't gotten around to it yet.

How did you do in last year's BAO?

How is the fantasy scene around Sac? Down here it's dead only supported by GW stores in Antioch and Alamo and right now very little fantasy going on while the 40k players are still in "Ohhhh Shiny" syndrome with 6th.

Well in central northern cali I live in Redding (just moved here with the Mrs. 2 years ago from the East Coast) and we have a mighty 6-8 players who have armies and know the rules well enough to play. That's why i'm quite excited for BAO. Johnny, if you hear of tournaments at Great Escape or other places close by i and a few others are fully willing to drive 2-3 for a tournament.

How the new GW up there for fantasy? Steve the manager ran the store in Antioch for about a year.
