Hello Dakka,

I've been a long time fan of the Dark Angels and with the new codex update I figured I'd revamp my old army, but after going through all my old marines I discovered that they were no good. So I've decided to start fresh.

The basic Idea for this army was that I wanted clean marines, no more standing in a field or a pile of rubble, I wanted something nice, So I decided to paint them as if they were at home. My bases will be covered in tile with a decorative mosaic. I also love the robed models, so (nearly) every model in the army I'd like to have in the robes. The group I'm in does mainly 1850 points, so I've writen a list to conform with that point value.

Here's what I plan on running and building:

The Basic strategy with this list is to scout with the bikes them drop the death wing into the heart of the enemy, Then drop the pods of scoring troops for objectives, A lot of plasma to get medium vehicles and heavy troops, and the missile launcher on the dread for killing aircraft.

The fluff will be that the 4th company is refitting at the rock, when they get to the recruitment world though they find it overrun with Chaos Cultists and a few traitor marines. A small detachment of the Deathwing and Ravenwing are each stationed on the Rock as well. Together with the 4th Company they fight to regain control of the world.

This is just a doodle of the mosaic on the tile, I drew it in Sharpe to get the basic Idea first.


Here is the mosaic painted, I think it turned out rather nicely, But I think i need to get a finer brush and go over some of the rougher parts, I'd also like to add some highlighting to the green and red tiles to help them pop more


I made a custom combi-plasma gun for the Lions Roar,


And here is my company master, Really like the way he's turning out so far.

Tomorrow I'll try and get paint on both the Company Commander and the Lions Roar, Then I'll have to work on some more bases.

Small update:

Finished a few more bases


Built a Sergeant for the first Tac Sqd


And first Tac Sqds Plasma Gunner


Primed the Company Commander and his equipment, also drilled out the barrels on the Lions Roar. Just taking a bit of a break today, but I'll try to get the Commander painter and then build the last three members of the Tac Sqd.

Brief update before bed tonight. The Company Master is done! I decided his name will be Bachliel, in keeping with the angle soundy names. I'd love to hear you comments and critique. I did the best i could with the lighting but my light box is far from professional quality

I think it is a great start!

It looks like you highlights on the robes are pretty stark. You may want to try some more subtle highlights befor jumping up to the white, maybe even finishing the highlight just before white. Your other highlights and straight edges I think would be much improved if you cleaned up the lines for the highlights.

I also think your pictures suffers from lighting, like you mentioned. You may want to just create an "open box" out of paper and then do the same thing you did with your light (if you've only got the one).

Beyond that, I'm very fond of the color choices and look forward to seeing more.

Just a one pic update tonight, but Tac sqd one is done being built, I'm going to try to get (most of) them painted this weekend

sorry for the long wait for an update, but pretty busy with life right now, but I did get some new parts for my army,
Two ravenwing command boxes and a deathwing box


and I've made their basses, the bike bases were particulary annoying to sand down...
