So, to give a bit of background I have been playing FoW for a while now. I primarily played Soviet Tankovy.

Recently however, I have wanted a change of pace. The whole "Mob them in tanks and hope for the best" has been running kinda dry recently, and I want a bit more of a tactical challenge where losing men/tanks is a bit harder to deal with. And after passing a few classes in World War 2 history alongside some personal studies I have come to the conclusion I wanted to try British Infantry lists out a bit. Something interests me about the good 'ol British Tommy. However, unlike my Soviets and other things, there are some less obvious choices I have to make and im confused about.

First, what books have good Late War British Infantry? I also understand that since Infantry change little over the course of the war (especially British, outside uniform changes the actual load-out stays the same. Some new toys get introduced late-war, but the Lee-Enfield is standard) so some cross between early-mid-late is nice (although, my FLGS rarely plays Early).

Second, does anyone know of any good makers of late-war Brit models? I will use BF, but 3rd-party is nice for the price.

Thanks everyone!

I like some peter pig brit stuff....

I always like brit para's as infantry, as frankly they're very hard, can defend well or attack at night - my favourite brit infantry aspect!

As for 'normal lists' you've got options in LW, you've got Turning Tide which has CV and CT lists, but will be getting updated in the summer, but lots and lots of options, also the new MG book has CV and CT and more high powered AT of course, but they're canadian lists really (the only brit infantry is classed as mech!)

You've got some interesting FV lists in cassino, more limited support, and some odd points, but the indian list is brutal up close!

You also get some odd PDF's as well, the polish infantry list in the 1st armoured PDF is mainly british but 2 armour slots which is nice, and there's the 52nd highland PDF has an interesting RV list IIRC

so yeah lots to choose from!

Back in the English morass

If you are making a defensive list you can go far wrong with the 51st Highland DIvison .pdf list. Its reluctant veteran but it has special rules to counteract the poor morale and it gets a nice points break so that you can afford a lot of toys.

For 1750 points you can get:
3 rifle platoons, a mortar platoon, a heavy mortar platoon, 2 artillery batteries, a 6 pounder platoon,a 17 pounder platoon, a bofors platoon, a confident vet armoured troop, an AOP and there are still 20 points spare.

To be honest the list in the main rulebook works perfectly fine.

Peter Pig stuff looks cool. I think im gonna go with the list from the main rulebook for now, until Turning Tide is updated and we see what comes of that. I went to PP's website, and it's a bit confusing. I understand that if I order the "Brit Infantry (LW) standing firing" for instance, I get 8 models with the poses in the picture? All for about $10 if I order 2 blisters? Am I getting this right hahaha

Also, I looked at Battlefronts British Rifle Company box to start as I liked the options given in it. I could get it for $60, and since I got the Open Fire set a while back, I have some tanks I could work into the list as support too. Is this any good? Money isn't a giant problem at the moment, so the price tag doesn't scare me. Better than 40k or my soviets ever were to me

Reaver, I've been thinking about what you said about Brit Para's, and I think I decided on going for that.

I like the look of the new MG book, the newest MG book with Brits in it is A Bridge Too Far correct? How strong are the lists in it? I don't plan on being too competitive, my local FoW players are very relaxed, but I like being able to win occasionally haha

I play Brit para's and the list is good, it's a list many people find hard to beat, and having night fight means you can attack

That's good. I like the always attack rule, while I don't mind defending (I did choose to play Infantry hahaha) attacking simplifies it a bit more and gives me a better challenge.

I notice there are 2 "Parachute" lists. One in A Bridge Too Far and one in Turning Tide. Which do you use?

The 'a bridge to far' list was updated in market garden, and it is a very good list, and IMHO better than turning tide too

Alright, cool! Im guessing the Market Garden book you keep referencing is the new one that came out not too long ago (The Warstore is telling me January 12th)?

I like the looks of the book, but is there a way to get just the Market Garden book? The only way I can see of getting it so far (after checking BF's website too) is to get that compilation that comes with both the MG book and the German book as well and it's $75. That's a bit....heavy....only for a few lists that I'll use and likely never actually use the rest of the Brit book (and I'll probably never touch the German book outside a read or two haha).

OR, im just blind and im missing it haha

(here's a link, to make sure im looking at the right thing http://www.thewarstore.com/product81191.html)

Ah ok! Thanks for the info! I'll build a list around the normal V3 forces book for the time being then. I'll likely just use para's as a stand-in for normal Brit infantry, I don't see anyone having any issues with it, the kit looks fairly similar

I"ve had my first outing with my Canadian Para Bn (Attached to the British 6th AB Div. duirng WWII.) using Turning Tide. What an extremely hard list to push back. My opponent had a hell of a time.

I'd love to see the British para list for MG.

Forged in Battle's British Infantry is well worth a look and is cheaper than both Battlefront and Peter Pig. If you look on-line you can get a platoon pack of 40 figures for about £9.

Most of my British Infantry comes from them and I'm very pleased indeed.

Forged in Battle does look nice. It's only about $15 for the platoon pack too. Does the pack come with everything needed to make a platoon? So all I would need is 2 of them and that's all my compulsory slots at least...

Yes, off the top of my head in a platoon pack you get 1 x officer, 1 x piat team, 3 x Bren gun teams , 1 x 2 inch mortar team, 4 x NCO's and 30 x riflemen.

That's great actually. After looking at a bunch of pictures of the mini's themselves, the detail looks crisp too (for 15mm), I think im gonna go ahead and use FiB. Could I get an HQ unit out of them too (im gonna likely buy 2 packs, to get 2 platoons to start), or would I have to seek that elsewhere? That's no big deal, it's just the last bump in the road before im all sorted

Thanks for all the help everyone! If I have anymore questions (and im sure I will. Call me an overly cautious person, but I tend to ask a lot of seemingly obvious ones) I know who to ask. These historical boards seem to be much friendlier than any of the other boards

EDIT: Anyone know of a good US retailer? I don't mind ordering from the UK, but it seems every time I place an order from overseas either it takes 4-5 months to get to me, it's wrong, or I payed too much haha

Unfortunately not. They’ve said on their Facebook page that they are looking to do into HQ options in the future, but they are still only a relatively young company.

I just got one of the company command blisters from Battlefront to make up my hq and observer stands.
