Give them some variation, for example; with a leadbelcher, add some drybrushed soot onto the face and hands.

A few ways to do this are:
Use a drybrush and a small amount of black/dark grey paint to add the soot effect.
Use the 'Tamiya Weathering Master (Snow, Soot and Rust)', I picked this up from my local supplier and I was very pleased with the results I got from the applicator provided in the set.
