I'm looking at getting into my next painting project, and I'm looking for advice on what paints to buy. Normally I'm a very ultilitarian painter (black basecoat, slap on a layer of whatever my main colour is, paint my secondary colour on all relevant surfaces, and then do minor details such as eyes, emblems, and weapons), but this time around I think I'd like to expand my horizons a bit and try something more complex.
My project is a Dark Angels successor chapter. My current plan is for the primary colour to be bone, similar to Deathwing, if perhaps slightly darker. As for my secondary colour, I want to use an ice/electric blue (for trim, robes, etc). I'm having a hard time, however, figuring out what paints I should start looking at. If at all possible, I would prefer to work with GW paints (since that is what my local stores stock in large quantities) but I would be willing to order another brand of paint if it would be significantly cheaper. Any advice on what I should be using for my basecoat, wash, layers, drybrush, and glaze (for either or both colours)?
As an additional question, I'm not used to working with GW's new paints. They used to always suggest building up from either a black or white undercoat. Is that still suggested, or should I just start painting the basecoat onto the grey models?
