So i have been posting a phew ideas about different lists for the different space marine armies. I can not really decide which i am going to want to spend the cash on. I have Been reading up on their codices and i am pretty sure black templars are too old for me being kinda new ish to handle. I got the new dark angels codex and im thinking it is not the one for me. I have a 1000 point doubles tourney coming up and i would like all of your imputs on the different armies. For instants i have an idea of a 1000 point space wolve list that is 4 drop pods each with 10 grey hunters and 2 special weps depending on the army. 1 more drop pod with 5 man grey hunter and a rune priest. I like the idea that it is a lot of 3+ save bodies with each squad having two solid fire power sources. Plus, god willing, getting three attacks in close combat also makes me feel they will just be good enough that if i shoot the right things and assault others that they are well rounded enough to do so. But when i was younger and started playing this game i liked vanilla marines and i used some of my friends and played with those back in the day, I love stern guard, i feel they have that well rounded feel to them that i love. but they are only elites and really die like regular 3+ marines. That being said tac squads as troops, i understand splitting them and having the one heavy sit back.... but the other 4 with him i dont understand what they do??? so i get annoyed with those troops until i figure it out more. so that why i would like anyones help with informing me about space marines. Also probibly the biggest thing what codex seems the most fun, not the best, and will keep me interested in new ideas.

Couple things....

-Define fun. Do you want an army that has a diversity of units that mesh well together? Do you want an army that has interesting characters and units with rather unique abilities?

-You seem to already be leaning toward Space Wolves. Why not go ahead and try that out?

-Do you have a preference for style of army? Lots of CC? Shooty? Mech? All-comers?

-Please, pay attention in English class. I felt like I was reading consecutive text messages from my 16 year old cousin.

Wow...Wall of text!

From what I've gathered:

No Black Templars

You'd prefer Space Wolves or Vanilla Marines.

You like Sternguard and Drop Pods.

Now, I'm not the authority on Space Marines (being an Ork player who has just gotten into CSM), but here's my input:

For fun, balance, ease of play, and a guarantee to get an update in every edition, play vanilla Space Marines.

Then, you can run an all Drop Pod list if you want (including dropping Sternguard onto the field). Heck, you could run an all-Sternguard force!

And in regards to making Combat Squads (splitting a tactical squad in 1/2), the extra guys are basically ablative wounds, purely there to soak up firepower and keep the special/heavy weapon alive.

Hope that helps! Good luck!

Well thanks for the grammar comment.... : / i was just going to drop the post but i guess i will still look to make something of this. Sorry for typing it like that. Anyways, yes I am a fan of being able to do a bit of everything. While at the same time I want to stay interested in the army.

Back to favoring space wolves... it is not that so much, I think i am distracted by the fact that grey hunters seem like a better choice then tactical squads.
