Hello Everyone!

I'm working on a Heldrake for my Emperor's Children army but could use some help or suggestions. I'm about to start painting the trim of the heldrake. I was thinking of maybe a bronze or gold. Does anyone have suggestions for what will look nice with these Pink Flames?

Also just a side note - I'm super new to the painting and modeling world so any suggestions on how to get a nice Chaos like gold or bronze and the steps to get there would be very much appreciated.

When watering down a metallic paint for application is it different than watering down a nonmetallic paint? Would I need a higher ratio of water to paint or anything? Thanks!

I recently discovered the goodness that is the vallejo liquid gold... such nice tones and a lot fun to work with. maybe some 'old gold'?
covers very well and with a small gryphon sepia wash it looks quite nice... might be worth a try

I'd vote for brass. I think the slightly darker color of brass would contrast better against the bright colors you have.

I would say to experment with the color on a totally different sprue and then hold it next to the paint job you have done. That way you can see what color would look the best.

Off topic slightly, but can you give a guide on how you did the pink?

Update:

I'm experimenting with a basecoat of Tin Bitz on the metal parts. I will next drybrush with gold. I hope it doesn't take away from the flames.

Yes I will be sure to write a guide on the pink flames once I get the time!

Jay Adan made some fantastic Emperor's Children using black trimmings, the best ones I have ever seen. So I would suggest black, I persoanly don't like the gold/silver look next to pink.

The way I do my bronze colour is base coat in tin biz, two layers of dwarf bronze and finish with a wash of Leviathan purple.

What you've done so far look fantastic by the way.

I have to be the slowest painter in the world because it takes me like 3 hours just to do the tin bitz on one wing!

Your not a slow painter. The is a great base paint job, I wouldnt want to mess it up. Id take extra time to paint the metal parts a well. Fantastic job, did you air brush the flames?

If I wanted to keep the metal parts darker like the tin bitz basecoat, what would you suggest to highlight/wash over it?

Very very interested to hear how you did the pink flames on these wings, I'm looking to do something similar to this myself.

Also FYI if you google Emperor's Children Heldrake from the UK, these are amongst the first pictures showing up
