Hello,

I'm about to start playign my first 40k match this weekend and I would like to use a Stormraven. But what i'm not sure about is exactly how they have to move and how they then shoot if swooping(don't have the book here but that's what it's called right?). I know they have to move what 18" minimum if swooping or soemthing and that they can only pivot once before moving. So does that mean I have to pivot and move 18" straight ahead and then shoot within a very limited line of sight? I started wondering mostly sicne I heard the faq said the chaos helldrake could fire 360 degrees with the guns now.

Sorry if I sound a bity newbish but figured better look up this before playing.

Do you own the 40k rulebook for 6th ed? All the rules for Fliers are in there. Also, I think you mean Zooming. I think Swooping is what Flying MC's do. Yes, you have to move at least 18", up to 36" every turn. You can pivot up to 90 degrees before each move.

Ok thanks. Will guess the shooting works like a normal vehicle and can only shoot "forwards" but will look forhte new faq's as well.

Yes, shooting works as normal. The Helldrake FAQ (360 degree shooting) only applies to the Helldrake and not other fliers.
But remember the turret on top of a Storm Raven can rotate and doesn't have to fire forwards.

How does line of sight work for things like top mounted turrets? Do you have to draw line of sight from the barrels? It's just that will seriously limit what you can hit.

Yes, just as every vehicle you draw LOS from the barrels.
(The Heldrake is an exception)

Yes, from the barrels.

Which is about the only good thing someone can look forward too when going up against a couple of stormravens.

pretty sure you can see through your own body, otherwise the Blitza/Burna Bommas grot gunner would be useless since he cant see anything but his own ship technically. Theres no way its designed to be an AA gun when its Str5....not that likely to take out most fliers.

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

Nope, the grot gunner is AA only (basically).

Burna Bomma top turret is capable of a fair bit of ground fire, as it's a freely rotating turret and the flying base leaves the model angled slightly downward. It just has issues with shooting anything close-by because it can't shoot through its own hull.

Big Shootas are long ranged, for Orks. Also good for targetting folk on bastions or high terrain.

The Blitza Bomma's hull-mounted rear-facing gun is a LOT less useful, as it's only really good for targetting another flyer or big model directly behind the Blitza.

I've killed a Trygon that i overflew with one once though

They aren't that good against Imperial flyers or Necrons (AV 12 sucks!) but work ok against DE and Ork ones.

I was going to just put it under the body instead of on top. Problem solved or I guess you could have it flying upside down.
