I'm curious, do you still field nobs in your boy mobz? I'm asking because challenges have really gimped the power and usefulness of my PK nobs.

Before, the nob would get stuck in with the boyz, and would dish out 4 or 5 PK attacks, tearing apart whatever was stupid enough to get swarmed by the mob. Nowadays, the sergeant challenges my nob and the expensive PK is wasted on taking out some weedy umie sergeant. And more often than I'm comfortable with, because of horribad Initiative, the nob doesn't even survive the encounter. That's a lot of points down the drain that could have been used for more buckets of dice.

I run the full 30 boy mob nowadays, completely made up of shootas. They're fearless unless something goes horribly wrong. But hey, I got 2 or 3 more mobs running around. The nob isn't required for Ld, and like I said, he gets challenged 90% of the time anyway, so he doesn't do much in CC that a full mob of boyz can't do cheaper, except take on walkers and vehicles.

Hence my question. Is it still worth it to have a nob in a footslogging mob of shoota boyz? Just for the occasional tank popping?

I always take PK Nobs. The times I've really needed that PK, it was sorely missed. I've also been playing a lot of 2000+ games, so I have just about every Boyz Mob running around with a Warboss or Big Mek with a PK of their own. If your Nob is the only Character in a Mob, you can spare him just by declining the Challenge and letting your Boyz handle your opponent, which you would be doing anyway if you didn't bring a Nob. But if you bring him, you have the choice.

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

I have not been running Nobz in with my boyz mobz in this edition. Like you said, the get challenged out too easily, though you can always deny a challenge, then have him step in for the 2nd round of CC, where he can no longer be challenged.

I just find that overall I can't justify spending 40 points on him when a normal unit of boyz can do just as well against most enemies.

I also run mobz of 20-30 shootaz and they just go after objectives while harder hitting units rush forward to draw fire, Nob Bikerz and Burna Boyz in a BW have been my fav so far (Lootaz and Dakka Jets providing supporting fire)

Not sure how you're getting 5 PK attacks out of yours, mine max out at 4 on the charge

This is still how I feel. Running a mob without a PK makes it feel so vulnerable to me. The PK really is the ork answer to damn near everything. So much so that taking a nob without a PK hadn't even occured to me, lol.
