Specifically talking about the grot crew that man a Big Gunz for orks.

I know this means they have no grotblastas or whatever they call their wannabe pistols, but do they still have melee weapons (i.e. fists)?
I ask because i was running 2 groups of 3 Kannons with 6 extra crew, and it got charged by a single Wraith. No pistols to fire overwatch, far as i know i cant overwatch with the kannons even though they have a non-blast option to fire with, so he got to me without a hitch. But then it came to me: can i even attempt to fight back? He killed 1 grot and sweeping advanced me (we looked that part up its legal to sweeping advance big gunz). I didnt even attempt to whack him with a stick or something since it said "Wargear: None" under Big Gunz grot profile.

Does this mean that the easiest way to deal with big gunz is to just charge them with whatever happen to get close cuz they cant fight back? Or did i epically fail and i was suppose to still get 1 attack even though grots have crappy strength?
(And if possible can i get a ref? Ive been pouring over the BRB/FAQs for awhile and cant find anything saying it....unless im blind...all i found mentions if it doesnt say melee weapon but not if it says it doesnt have anything at all)

Weather or not you have any wargear, you can still make a close combat attack with the value listen in the stat profile. It just wont have any special attributes. The reason Boys can take a slugga and a choppa is so that they get +1 attack from their profile for a total of three instead of just the 2.

So the Grots that crew a big gun, can still fight in the assault phase with one attack each.

Yea i saw that but considering how lame most of the rules are written i figured that wouldnt apply if i didnt have a gun either.

Probably would have died to that wraith anyway but 10 attempts i could have fended it off lol o well thx.
