My local escalation league is restarting unexpectedly and I'm putting together a list for the wolves. I'm interested in the usual comments, but also what armies this list would be strong/weak against. I'm not trying to tailor a list to kill a certain type, I'm just curious and want to be prepared. Here's the list:

HQ
Wolf Priest

Troops
Grey hunters x10 w/ drop pod, x2 meltaguns and power axe

Grey hunters x10 w/ drop pod, and x2 meltaguns

Grey hunters x10 w/ drop pod, x2 plasma guns

Blood Claws x9 w/ rhino

Heavy support
Vindicator w/ extra armor and seige shield.

I would switch out the Blood Claws for Grey Hunters or Drop the Rhino for more Blood Claws.
Bloodclaws wotk best in Packs of 15.
It should do well vs most Armies

Is extra armor worth it for the vindicator or should I drop that and replace it with a storm bolter?

Extra armor is not worth it.

OK then I've killed the extra armor, the power axe and the rhino and added in 4 more blood claws. I can walk the BCs up the field and pinch my opponent between them, the vindicator and the drop pod grey hunters. Am I missing anything else? Any other comments?

If you're trying to be competitive, I would drop both the blood claws and the vindi for as many long fangs as you can afford.

That said, I think that you are well positioned to have a decent game against another marine player, or Tau or a Nid force that isn't too large. However, here is where I think you're vulnerable;

Deathwing : You could probably deal with a couple of Terminators, but you're going to have lots of trouble handling 15 to 20 of them.

Necrons : They'll outshoot you so you'll want to get into CC asap. But if they've got lots of royal court-type-shenanigans, you may never get out of CC. Also, you would need to get close to monoliths to use your meltaguns, but then the gate of infinity will lay waste to your hunters.

Orks : I'm not very savvy with orks, so I can't be specific. But mobs of 30 boys with powerklaws could be trouble.

If you were going to run a Gunline it would be a solid list vs. Orks, I use a similar list all the time. I have not done Prop Pods vs. Orks, though it could work if you did it right. I will talk to the Ork player in our group to see about a Pod Wolf list vs. Orks.

You're right about all of these. I also had trouble last night against a 1k plauge marine list with typhus.
To counter that I may switch blood claws out for a rune priest and thunder wolf cavalry if I fight that list again. Also, what strategy's would be good to use on a guard or marine army camping behind an aegis line?

well your vindicator is going to be pretty useless against aegis line campers simply because you'll have to get within 24" to do anything. Is he going to let you get that close? Probably not.

Again. Long fangs together with a RP with divination. Krak missiles and plasmaguns are perfect space marine killers. They hit on 3+, wound on 2+ and missiles will cause instant death. If they're standing behind 4+ cover, there is a nice divination spell (if you're lucky enough to get it) that ignores cover. If they're in the open, the free divination spell lets you re-roll to hit.

The wolf priest is very nice for providing preferred enemy to your plasmaguns. In my opinion, this is BETTER than divination because you don't have to risk perils of the warp to use it and it lets you re-roll dice rolls of 1 to hit AND to wound in BOTH shooting AND close combat.

So if they're hiding behind cover, drop your pods behind them where the cover doesn't help them.

Are you playing 1000 points on a 4'x6' table or 4'x4'? I love Thunderwolf Cavalry. If you want to run them, I'd say take 3 of them, one with a Thunder Hammer or Power Fist and one with a Storm Shield. Depending on whether you take fist or hammer, that'll be 205 or 210 points. Bloodclaws ar weak. Against a lot of lists, the Long Fangs will be the most helpful thing you could add. Most SW players base the core of their army around 2 things. Grey Hunters and Long Fangs... If you don't want to go that route I'd suggest taking another Vindicator as well. One is never enough. It draws too much fire. Taking a second will help with armor saturation, and you can never have too many S10 AP2 large blast templates. If you face a list with some AV13-14, you certainly won't regret it. Also, whatever list throws out 15 terminators will be very scared of said Vindicators. My most recent 1000 point wolf army looked like this...

Rune Priest, Chooser of the Slain
Grey Hunters x10, Standard, MOTW, Plasma x2
Grey Hunters x10, Standard, MOTW, Plasma x2
Grey Hunters x10, Standard, MOTW, Melta x2
Long Fangs x6, Missile Launcher x3, Lascannon x2
Long Fangs x6, Missile Launcher x3, Lascannon x2

This list was played on a 4'x4' city scape board with lots of terrain, so... That's why I didn't put points into Rhinos or Drop Pods. Regardless, I won 4 of the 5 games played with it. My only loss was to an IG list that was having a ball with all the cover. He just out-shot my pretty hard. His list is below...

CCS, Plasma x4
Leman Russ Battle Tank
Leman Russ Battle Tank
Manticore
Veterans, Plasma x3
Veterans, Plasma x3
Veterans, Plasma x3
Veterans, Flamer x3
