Sitting around thinking about what I want to add into my army when we go up in points in the escalation league I am in and I was wondering about lootas in a battlewagon. I know lootas are great to take. Also putting them in a battlewagon will certainly add to there survivability and we all know this trick. I don't really ever see anyone giving the wagon very many guns and I also see that the option to put meks in the loota squad go to waste.Since meks can repair hull points now. So there are two set ups I have come up with that I have never really seen. Wondered what people thought about them and if anyone has ever done this.

Each set up is however many lootas W/ 3 meks..Then give the meks and the battlewagon either all big shootas or all rokkits/Kannon.

The rokkit option cost a decent amount more(45 pts more compared to a big shoota set up) and while the rokkits hit harder..There are much fewer shots and a shorter range(24") but dp bring some AP 3 which orks always lack at range.

With the big shoota set up you get 21 big shoota shots. So with so many shots..your for sure going to get some hits in there. But with a much lower str and ap will be tougher to pen things. Can do a decent job of glancing light armor and hitting flyers. Also longer range (36) and if you need to shoot your deff guns at something av 12 or higher..your big shootas are doing zip.

I really like the idea. I just cant figure out which option would generally be better.

You could do the 4 rokkits + Kannon for 5 Str8 shots if anything tries to charge it that lootas either cant or is unlikely to hurt. Usually people have this wagon set up behind their wall of boyz with a bunch of random Pklaws roaming around though. Unlikely for something to get by all that without deepstrike in which case you get a turn to react before it charges.

To me tho its more of a luxury upgrade than a mandated one. I usually play 1500pts, i rarely have more than 100pts to throw around into whatever i want and usually putting it towards kombi scorchas on my MANz or fighta-acing my dakkajets or getting another group of grots roaming around is more important than rokkits vs big shootas. At 1750, i'd probably do it as im usually taking the same lists and just beefing the numbers up.

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

14000pts Big 'n Bad Orkz
6000pts Admech/Knights
7500pts Necron Goldboys

Bs2 Str 8 isn't worth it in my opinion. I rock a BW with 3 big shootas, a kannon or lobba (depends on terrain), and 8-9 lootas with a mek or two. Sometimes I throw on a deffrolla if I have the points and play a deep strike army. It works amazingly well and people seem to tunnel vision it and miss the power klaws coming up on them from other sides.

I concur. This is more or less the gold standard of Loota wagons. I always go Kannon myself, as it adds much needed diversity to the army.

Also, you can run all three of those Big Shootas on turrets, which is double great.
