I thought it would be useful to have a list of everything useful to know, and not useful, about each legion, even the traitor. I don't know much about them, so I thin kit would be useful for if you post, to have a thorough run through of each legion.

Ooh, I'll start.

Legion II - Nothing is known about them.
Legion XI - Nothing is known about them.

That's both useful, and not useful.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

No, does it have what happened in that?

As for the Primarchs article, thank you. I don't know how multi qoute works...

Be nice, he's new to this.

The Lexicanium is a great free resource to start with. the basics are 20 founding legions, 9 remained loyal, 9 turned traitor, 2 are unknown and GW plans to keep them unknown to keep some mystery in the 40k universe.

For a long time we did not know the fate of most primarchs, and had only a name. About 10 years back GW did a series of WD articles with additional history and even rules for all 18 founding legions. They were collected as Index Astres which is usually pretty cheap on Ebay. The rules are out of date though.

The Horus Heresy novels cover in nausiating detail the machinations and fates of the 18 we do know about and the SM codex has quite a bit of information as well.

I'll add the usual warning that anything published under the 40k label does not necessarily have to be consistent/compatible to each other, so do not take the aforementioned sources as some sort of gospel.

Lexicanum would be a good place to start, anyways, for even though its articles are just the individual wiki editors' interpretations on how it all might fit together, the very same articles usually also provide a list of sources - which in turn would allow you to hunt them down and take a look at the actual material itself, thus forming your own interpretations.

I always was told that the story behind the 2 missing legions was, it was thought they where traitors, but did some sort of redeeming act, so they where not forgiven for what they did but instead they had all records of them removed so they would not be known as traitors.

Just think, one of the chapters the bled off from the original 9 loyal chapters may actually be one of the original legions O.o

Also i have heard they keep the missing so that you can make your own fanfiction

To many unpainted models to count.

That would be the meta, yes.

Games Workshop has been pretty vocal about not really revealing anything substantial about the two missing legions. Most rumors you hear about their identities and/or fates are just that, rumors. Realistically, I don't think we will, nor should, learn anything more than that they were found and lost after Horus but before Corax and Alpharius.

I've always thought that GW was too cheap to hire more writers to write about this, and they see that we hate the current writers, so they don't do anything.
But reverting back to the OP, Lexicanum, as someone posted above is your best bet, they take almost (if not all) of the sources and compile them into something almost consistent.

Nah, that's a common myth.

Not naming all 1000 chapters was the way for you to make your own Space Marines. The missing Legions are just part of the fluff, and in the modern iteration of it, it's actually impossible for the Missing Legions to still exist without going laughably off the fluff reservation, lol. The fact that they have remained "missing" is simply one of the long standing fluff quirks of 40K. GW decided it was cooler for them to remain mysterious, so they have. Even though, with the Horus Heresy series, there's really no reason for them to remain that way. But again, it's just an ancient bit of fluff for the universe that GW has held on to.

However, it is correct that Rick Priestley once suggested that the "Missing Legions" were deleted as a reward so that nobody would know how they had originally fought for Horus. But that idea cannot exist with the way the Horus Heresy has been expanded over the last twenty years.

Well, I thank you all for this.

But then again for the longest time they were vocal about not giving Primarchs or the Emp stats.

And we know how that went.

But for now, there is no real word on the missing legions, everything you know is a lie.

Well, at the rate they've gone, we should see the Missing Legions sometime in the late 2020s.

I hear 2nd Legion Terminators have a 2++ and 3 wounds.

And their flier has TL AP2 Assault cannons.
