My friend and I were recently playing a match using the "Relic" rules. We had a piece of paper for the relic and my friend moved his dreadnought right on top of it so I couldn't reach it until the dreadnought was destroyed. This is indeed very clever but do you guys think it's legal? Maybe it's very clear in the rule book and I just keep missing it but... it's gw so clear rules aren't always the norm

Perfectly legal and an effective strategy. Nothing in the rules suggests that objective markers are treated as anything other than open terrain for purposes of movement/LOS/etc, so it's entirely legal to park a unit on top of an objective marker of any kind and prevent an enemy unit from getting close enough to claim it.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

I would call foul on such a move. It's one of those situations where there really isn't a rule saying you can't do something like that, but there's certainly no rule saying you can. GW's objective tokens are also incredibly inconducive to having anything stand on them, adding further to the general implications that you shouldn't be standing on them.
But people will argue in this forum that you can stand on top of a rhino, so I don't expect it to be treated as simply as that. What I would want to see from such people is where the clear permission for such a move is. Remember GW is not writing for the rule lawyers, meaning they don't go out of there way to specifically block every ridiculous thing people come up with. Relic rules mention only getting into base to base, and generally treat it as a model. The RAI here is fairly easy to decipher.

In the movement and terrain sections.
Movement tells us infantry can move up to 6 inches. The terrain section tells us we can not move through or onto impassible terrain. The relic is not impassible terrain, tehrefore we can move there.
How would you treat a Drop pod that scattered directly on top of the relic disallowing base contact with the relic?
