On the perfumed wind

Hey all-

This is my new WHFB project. Having played for years with Dwarves, I figured a fast, hit and run, high magic list would be a nice 180 degree change up.

I'll skip the list for now, since the new WoC book is about to drop, and just go on to the first unit:

As the list currently stands, there are 40 marauder cav models. Breaking that into 8 sets of 5, they each pair nicely with one other "item", be it a character a set of 5 warhounds, a chariot, or knights. The plan is to do at least one set of 5 marauder cav, and one other "item" each month, getting done in August. That leaves the possibility that the army will be ready in time for Alamo (or Northstar), with some flex time, and extra ability to put together a display board.

At the beginning of the year, I'd only painted the first cav model (whose flesh tones don't quite match his comrades). I didn't take any before pictures, so I'll be skipping this month's challenge, but I'm not really in it for the prizes.

First models:

I'd forgotten how humbling it is to look at zoomed in pictures of your models! It definitely gives me a lot more respect for the other things I see around and about.

Here's another angle:

There's some basing cleanup yet to be done.

I tried more freehand on this unit than I'd ever really tried before. It wasn't perfect, but I learned as I went, and hope to continue to improve. As always, I can easily see all the things I missed, but for my ability level, I'm pretty happy for now.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

Doop, doop, doop. Nothing terribly exciting here. With the chaos hounds, I was able to use some basing lessons learned from the first unit.

Namely, I left some flat spaces using green stuff for placing the tufts so they'd go on easier. I also realized that there needed to be some more variety of textures and added some flat stones, while making the surface grain a little more uniform.

Despite an attempt to greenstuff the join on the models, its still pretty apparent on a couple. I'm planning on two more packs of five, so may experiment with liquid greenstuff to address the issue.

And after painting:

Having some trouble getting the white to come out smoothly, but was happy with the overall color scheme and how the army stays tied together thus far. Thanks for any comments!

Wow. I really like the white / brown warhounds. I got 10 of them sitting on my desk and was toying with ideas on painting them. Definately going to *try* and do them like this

Cant wait to see more

Thanks- most of the comments I've gotten have favored the hounds over the cav. I realize that I improved on the white and then went back to the cav to smooth out the horseflesh.

Next up is a character model, pics soon.

A character next. This sorcerer includes a flagellant head, an icon from the Daemonettes, a sword from some old CSM sprue, the body from the Slaanesh lord on Daemonic steed, and a steed of slaanesh stripped from the daemonic chariot model.

Hard to cast spells when your lips are sewn shut, but whatevs.

The wonderful moment before I try to apply paint, and my vision fails to become reality!

This model required quite a bit of filing and finagling to get him to fit on top of the steed proper. I opted for the steed from the chariot because it included a little bit more in the way of armor plates than the other options available.
