How do all!
Fairly long time player, very recent winner!
Thanks to my fellow Dakkaites I have been able to step up my game rather substantially and have been winning more games of late. While I only ever play friendly games it is nice to crush your mates occasionally!
I've now got more than half of the Ressers so my options are pretty decent for most Strategies/Schemes.
I've recently painted up Kirai and although I am yet to play her I am quite familiar with how she works. Add to this what I have learnt from my own experiences with the Ressers and help from others, either on here or Pull My Finger I'm looking forward to trying out this little combo . . .
Crew List
Kirai (+3)
Lost Love 2
Seishin 2
Canine Remains 2
Datsue-Ba 7
Nurse 5
Izamu the Armor 10
= 28ss (+cache of 5)
Deployment
Be sure to deploy the Canine Remains near Kirai and the Seishin no more than 2" in front of her. Also have the Nurse close to the Seishin.
First Turn Catapult
Activation 1
- Pass on Canine Remains
Activation 2
- Activate Datsue-Ba
- Kill Canine Remains with Weigh Sins
- Summon Gaki/Onryo* (*Trigger with a X)
- Also summon Sheishin#2 to Kirai (Spirit Anchor)
Activation 3
- Activate Lost Love
- Turn Izamu into a Spirit
Activation 4
- Activate Nurse
- Give Original Seishin 'Reactivate' (With Furious Casting you can attempt this up to 3 times although you can't stack the effects!)
Activation 5
- Pass with summoned Seishin#2
Activation 6
- Move/Pass with summoned Gaki/Onryo*
Activation 7
- Move up 8"with Original Seishin (Hopefully by now your opponent will have Activated most, if not all of their models so the Seishin will be relatively safe)
Activation 8
- Reactivate Original Seishin moving another 8" (Putting you up to 18" away from Kirai and hopefully very close to a high point model or Master who has Activated)
Activation 9
- Activate Kirai
- Switch Original Seishin with Izamu (Swirl Spirits)
Activation 10
- Activate Izamu
- KILL SOMETHING BIG!
So how's that? Does it work? Is all that Legal?
Obviously like most things in Malifaux this is rather circumstantial and relies on the cards coming up (although not too heavily) and more importantly it requires you to out-activate the opponent (other-wise the Seishin runner is going to drop like a bug)
So what do you guys think?
Could it work or have I missed something?

I now have a feeling that the Nurse can only target undead with her steroids and not spirits! (I don't use them much so I'll have to check).
But if that is the case, you could swap out the original Seishin with another canine and use lost love to make him a spirit as well as Izamu! Or even just take a night terror for an extra stone!
Either way I think it'll be worth a go. Specially if you flip for Contain Power! Automatically Appended Next Post: Its prob not worth using the night terror as whatever gets the dosage of drugs from the nurse will be killed in the start closing phase! Although it is killed rather than sacraficed so Kirai will gain an new Seishin anyway!

IZamu is really good to begin with, and becomes a true nightmare to deal with when he is turned into a spirit. Your base tactic is really good and should work out well. I did notice a couple things you may want to consider and one thing you need to fix.
So, the error first. Kirai cannot take 2 Canine remains. Kirai has a rule (Detached) tht makes non-spirit models she hires Rare 1. This means she can only take 1 Canine remains. Typically people get around this by hiring 1 Canine remains and 1 Desperate Mercenary. This has the added benefit of the Desperate Merc providing a free healing flip to Kirai.
Also, your mileage may vary with the Nurse overall.
I would recommend using this as the core of your crew:
Kirai
Lost Love
Datsu-Ba
Desperate Merc
Canine Remains
3 Seishin
Izamu
=29ss (Pool of 4)
This is tough, but given the right card draw will net you a spirit Izamu. The first turn would go along these lines:
Activation 1-3
- Seishin defensive stance/Pass
Activation 4
- Canine defensive stance
- Canine attacks Desperate Merc (aiming to bring Desp Merc down to 1 wnd)
Activation 5
- Desp Merc Defensive Stance
- Desp Merc does For My Family
- Desp Merc attack canine (aiming to bring canine to 1 wound)
Activation 6
- Kirai Defensive Stance
- Kirai Into the Spirit World (Stay B2B with a Seishin)
- Kirai Summons a Shikome (sac 2 Seishin/take 3 wounds)
- Kirai Heals herself with her (0) healing ability
Activation 7
Activation 8
- Lost Love turns Izamu into a spirit
Activation 8
- Datsu-ba weighs sins on Desperate Merc
- *Desp merc dies, giving a Seishin to Kirai, giving Kirai a healing flip, creating a Gaki/Onroyo depending on trigger
- Datsu-ba weighs sins on Desperate Merc
- *Canine dies, giving a Seishin to Kirai and creating a Gaki/Onroyo depending on trigger
Continue your turn at this point.
I would not worry about using Swirling spirits on Izamu to catapult him on turn 1. Between the Shikome and the Gaki/Onroyo you should have plenty of stuff up the field to swirl Spirit-Izamu up turn 2 and beyond.

Ah yes, forgot about the RARE 1! Too used to fielding McM & Seb with a pack of dastardly doggies!
I have yet to use Kirai still as I'm waiting on Izuma to get painted (I keep leaving the paints out but he just wont jump in!  )
But the Desperate Mercs might be a way to go as well, having 4 canines I've never really needed any other expendable options but I may pick up a couple once my to-do-list is looking a bit emptier!

I just started playing around with Kirai myself, and have yet to try Izamu in the mix. I will say that Kirai is the most complicated master I have played in Malifaux to date. I am not sure why my head just will not wrap around what she can and does do.
She is amazingly cool though, and very competitive!

Granted, I still get the basic outcome since I'm limited in what resser models I own (more puppies or Flesh Constructs). Nix, I don't have my cards on me, but is Bete Noir a Spirit? I keep meaning to bring her out with my Nicodem crew through reanimator if I must, but that restricts me to non unique, non spirit undead. Also, Emperors_Champion, let me know how that catapault works out, it sounds kind of funny

Bete is not a spirit, sadly. As long as you know your facing an opponent with Living or Undead models she is great with Kirai. If your not facing such an opponent its sad days.....

I don't own Kirai, but at least I know that Nicodem will be okay with her  .
I hate to keep threadjacking, but in a usual Nicodem game I have issues deciding what to take. I know a lot of crew creation is done on the fly, but I'm just having troubles deciding what to take to fill out a list. As it stands, I usually take Nicode w/Grave Spirit, and 4 to 6 canine remains. I'd grab a desperate merc if I owned any, any suggestions?

It's been a really long time since I saw Nicodem on the table to tell the truth. As I am not a resser player, I am really bad at giving suggestions for him.
I would say email my cohost Dan or just send the email to Lounge and ask that question. I will make sure it gets in and answered on the next show. Dan is an amazing Nicodem player.

Nico really likes Punk Zombies! With his Bolster Undead (0 Action) they become crazy awesome with a Cb of 9 on their paired katanas and Df 7!
I also find him rather partial to Necro Punks for a bit table control.
And its useful to get hold of some mindless zombies (or suitable proxy) as his other 0 Action is turn all corpse counters within 10" into mindless zombies which you then control. You can then walk them back to Nico for extra protection or to use later to summon something more useful! (Mindless zombies still count as corpse counters and can still be used in Reanimator!  )
As far as I can remember there's about 10 or so non-unique pieces that Nico can summon. It's worth getting a few just to have them there if the situation calls for it!

I tend to summon mine in using dead Canines, they're far more cost effective

I'll look into these, I think they're 3ss compared to the Canine's 2, but that's not a huge deal, and I can include both

This... this I do know  My second game with Nicodem, I kept bringing in Mindless zombies as I killed my things and my opponents Silent Ones and Slateridge Mauler, summoned a Flesh Construct, and the construct and 8 mindless zombies marched Rasputina down  . Since my Ressers will probably only be for fun, I'm just using green bases to represent my mindless zombies. Everything else I can summon, I tend to have the model for (though the model count you listed makes me have to go back and compare what I own to what he can summon)
Also, I find myself trying to take Molly as a space filler, I have yet to get to play her in my crews.

I've just got Molly myself actually, along with her totem the Necrotic Machine. Its rather a big ask but i'm looking forward to the totem casting off her Philosophy of Uncertainty on my mates Snow Storm! And then rubbing the salt in by summoning the totem back with Molly!
As for Nico, the models I have that he can Reanimate are Punk zombie, necropunk, crooked men, canines, rotten belle, crooligan and of course the Flesh construct!
Add to this the Rouge Necromancy, dead doxies and the Guild Autopsys (which I dont yet have) plus the merc options of the Desolation Engine and Steampunk Abominations!
Makes 12!

Just gonna throw this out there, but using a pair of Night Terrors (spirits!) instead of the Nurse and Seishin will get you better results I think. Night Terrors have a walk of 6 and a (0) action pulse that'll place all Night Terrors within 6" into base contact. Basically Terror 1 walkes once, (0) action to pull the other one along, then walks again (possibly back towards Izamu). Terror 2 activates afterwards and Walks twice (12", plus the 6" place) getting 18" up the board or so. Doesn't cost any cards to pull off and costs the same SS as the Nurse + Seishin.

Probably yes. The night terrors are awesome and they do make it into a lot of my list. I think I was more concerned with out Activating the opponent and sending a night terror duo head on might see them short lived. But yes, it definately would be better and i'll probably give some thought based on the faction/crew size of the opponent!
