Krieg! What a hole...

Aaaaaaah those magnificient bastards, so pretty and yet... lacking, I think.

Breaking them down:
Stormtrooper stats line with WS 4. Rules: The one that gives said WS4, a stubborn equivalent rule, another rule that makes them use the leadership of a DKK officier within 6 inches when they fall back, for regrouping tests.
Gear: Hotshot lasguns, ccw, carapace armor, frag and kraks. Bang, that is it.
Options: Can have 2 melta guns/flamers/grenade launcher, can have a vox caster, a demolition charge, they can also take a heavy flamer and a heavy stubber, all the gear is standard prize the heavy stubber is 10 pts
The officier can have a boltgun (free), plasma pistol, power weapon, melta bomb, same prizes as IG 'dex.

Now, this is all fine and dandy, and demolition charges are lovely, so are hotshots, but hey, 18 pts for a guy, that's even more expensive than them Stormtroopers, who can deepstrike as part of the bargain, and have a pistol.

They do have pro: Demo charge, hotshots and carapace is great, means they can dish out the pain to marines, don't have to hug cover as much and demo charges allows them to scare of even terminators (I am thinking of a Mordrak star deepstriking, all bunched up, throw a charge in there, boom, lots o' dead paladins, seen it happen, although the charge was from Marbo)

Cons: Absolutely no way to safely bring them in combat, unless you use a Centaur, which is pretty squishy, even if its fast. However with only a carrying capacity of five, this means you can't have 2 special weapons, a heavy weapon and a demo charge in it. They still have guardsmen stats, means they'll die stupidly quickly, and you can only take 10 of them at best, the squad will die really quickly, even with a 4+.

Now another thing, they're taking an elite slot: They compete with the heavy mortar and the quad gun. The mortar being an artillery version of the Griffon and the quad gun being able to fling 4 str 5 ap small blast. Not only that, but a whole battery of either guns with cost 200 pts, a full squad of Grenadiers (and that is without upgrades) is 180 pts.

I played a few games with them, came up with the following:

As an offensive unit, they're lousy and squishy, won't get in range to use their demo charge, and hotshots are outranged by everything, so that is a no go. The few times where people attacked them, they did alright (blew up a Goff Stompa in an Apoc game, wiped out berserkers, held some Chaos SM for the basilisk to blow them up). I am thinking about keeping them in defence, where people would have other things to shoot at. They might also live long enough to use their short ranged weapons to bear.

Anything I've missed?
