Hey guys, I'm currently working on a DE list for someone, however there's a few units that they want in them (namely Lelith, Madrakes and Beastmaster w/ anything). With that in mind, and that they wanted a more close combat based army, I've made this. I don't know a lot about DE, so any and all help I can get would be appreciated. List meant to be fun, but still somewhat competitive, only really being used in friendlys and possibly in GW stores.

HQ

Lelith Hesperax
175points

Troops

10 Kabalite Warriors
1 Blaster, 1 Dark Lance
Sybarite w/ Splinter pistol and venom blade
Raider w/ Dark Lance, night shields, splinter racks, shock prow and chain snares
245 points

10 Wyches
1 Razorflails, 1 Hydra Gaunlets.
Hekartix w/ splinter pistol and venom blade.
All Haywire grenades
Raider w/ Disintergrator cannon, shock prow and chain snares.
225 points

9 Wyches
1 Razorflails
Hekartix w/ splinter pistol and venom blade.
All Haywire grenades
Raider w/ Disintergrator cannon, shock prow and chain snares.
205 points

Elites

5 Mandrakes
75 points

Fast Attack

5 Scourges
2 Dark Lances
Solarite w/ Venom blade
155 points

2 Beast Masters
5 Khymerae each
144 points

Heavy Support

Talos Pain Engine
100 points

Talos Pain Engine

Total 1499 points.

Mandrakes with a haemonculi. Always. Sybarite and Hekatrix and Solarite aren't really worth it. How your scourges even get into CC is beyond me and liquifiers on the talos are nice

I'd drop the sybarite upgrade on the kabalites. Personally not a big fan of heavy weapons on kabalites either, i like to keep them mobile.

Drop some of the upgrades on the raiders, they are paper planes so don't make them too expensive. Stuff like shock prow and chain snares aren't worth it IMHO.

I like the haywire guns on scourges, keeps them mobile.

Otherwise, given the parameters you have to work with the list is ok. Assault armies aren't what they used to be but can still work out. Lelith and mandrakes are most often not worth their points but that's personal flavor ofcourse.

Thanks for the replies In regards to what you've said, I've changed it about a bit. In terms of the heavy weapons on the Kabalites they're in Raiders so didn't think it mattered too much, plus could drop them on an objective a fire from there? Either way here are the changes:

HQ

Lelith Hesperax
175points

Haemonculus
Flesh Gauntlet, Dark Gate
Haemonculus
Vemom Blade, Stinger Pistol
155 points

Troops

10 Kabalite Warriors
1 Blaster, 1 Dark Lance
Raider w/ Dark Lance, night shields, splinter racks
220 points

10 Wyches
1 Razorflails, 1 Hydra Gaunlets.
All Haywire grenades
Raider w/ Disintergrator cannon
200 points

9 Wyches
1 Razorflails
All Haywire grenades
Raider w/ Disintergrator cannon
180 points

Elites

5 Mandrakes
75 points

Fast Attack

5 Scourges
2 Dark Lances
140 points

2 Beast Masters
5 Khymerae each
144 points

Heavy Support

Talos Pain Engine
Liquifier
105 points

Talos Pain Engine
Liquifier
105 points

1499 points

Hopefully this looks better than before, any help is welcome

Just realised the list is at a fault vs. Flyers, so what's the best way to make room for a Razorwing Jetfight?

The Twilight Zone

If your going to have lilly, take a shardnet and impaler in the wytch squad. It pairs well with hers, and keeps attacks against the squad to a minimum. A hekatrix is also critical to accept challenges lilly does not want to be fighting(S6 and above will instagib her)

If you run a hamey with mandrakes, then the mandrakes cant infiltriate....which is all they are really good for. You don't have anywhere else for the hamey's to go. I would make room in lilith's wytch raider for one to give the squad FNP. Keep the hamey's cheap. Scissorhand or venom blade for CC, liquifier for shooting. Nothing else is needed, although shattershards and caskets of flensing are pretty good for their cost.

Either drop the splinter racks from the kabbie raider, or drop the blaster and dark lance for a splinter cannon.

Wytch raiders need dark lances,as you have so few to begin with.

If you HAVE to take mandrakes(you really should convince your friend to run them as counts as wracks if he likes the models), I would take a full ten, and probably a nightfiend for the extra ld and the character. Wracks are better in every way, cheaper, and troops if you have a hamey.

Scourges should never take dark lances, they need mobile weapons so they can move. You pay a premium for their mobility, so get blasters, heat lances or haywire blasters. All have their merits.

Beast packs are silly good, and you should consider taking the baron if you are running one. The pack needs at least 2 razorwing flocks to do the heavy lifting in CC. Khymera are there to eat bullets, razorwings kill.

Good talos loadouts. I would drop the scourges to make room for the razorwing. Keep the stock missiles and dark lances, take a flickerfield if you have the points.

at least the mandrakes can shoot if they start with a haemy and if they hug cover they are actually pretty decent for their points worth.

Also have you considered a Haemy Ancient with mindphase gauntlet? I5 and 3A helps againt IC's

Really really really really push your friend not to play mandrakes. They BLOW! A shame really. Gorgeous models. If you drop those you'll have the points to add the razorwings that Dr. Serling refers to.

Suggest you drop your Kabalite squad to 5 troops and take a venom instead of raider Gives you some good blocks of splinter cannons. (Take the extra splinter cannon for it) If you do that and drop the Haemonculus' you can actually make it 2 squads like this.

Take night shields on ALL of your vehicles.

I would Drop the Scourges in favour of a Ravager. This will give you some of the DL power you need. (to be honest, I'd trade one of the Talos' for an additional ravager as well).

Thanks for all the comments, I'll get to rejigging the list later I'm writing the list for my other half, and she really likes the Mandrake models. To be fair if she doesn't run them she's got them already to paint. I agree that it's a shame that they're not great considering how amazing the models themselves are. The main armies this would be up against would be Chaos, and possibly Orks. Imperial Guard and Space Wolves would appear occasionally, as these are the armies amongst me and my friends. Necrons are there too if my brother decides to play, and I'm trying to make it so that it adheres to what she wants, whilst being able to stand its own. I really appreciate the help, and I'm sure she will too, will have the updated list up soon

Hey guys, just been able to get in write a list. Have spoken to my girlfriend and asked her if there was any must haves or any that she really didn't wanna run. She said that as long as there is at least one Talos, she don't care, which now frees up a lot. I'm liking the idea of this list, so I'm gonna continue persuing this idea, however Mandrakes are now gone. With that in mind, here's an updated and hopefully improved list.

You can also take an aethersail and post it on a reaver skyboard, if you have the conversion skill.

Shredders are pretty meh, a blaster would be a much better buy for the kabbies unless you just cant find points anywhere else. Dropping the hekatrix's agonizer to a venom blade would get you some blasters.

Splinter pod is the worst gun to take on the talos, as a BS3 small blast will scatter too often. Take the stock splinter cannon if you want AI, heat lance or haywire if you want AT.

Looking good though.

I'm not that good at converting haha; never really given it a proper go to be honest. Most I do is sticking decapitated heads to things really haha. I'm struggling to find points in places to be honest, and the Splinter Pod was a case of I have the points and I overlooked checking the Talos' BS... Should've checked that xD I normally run Venom Blades, however again I stuck an Agoniser in because I didn't know what else to add in. However, I've made the changes you recommended and are gonna be edited into the previous post Just out of curiosity, how good are Cronos Parasite Engines? They seem pretty good to me, but I'm by no means a competitive player, and don't often take into account if it's just good on paper, or good in performance too.

I think the list is looking good, I would drop the ns off the razorwing since it probably wont ever make a difference and give the talos chain-flails. Also shardnets are the ideal way to go with wyches imo so I would probably put that on all of them. Other than those small tweaks I think its looking really good though, best of luck!

Oh and I didnt notice before but, the ns on the transports really wont come into play since the warriors and wyches have to get close to the enemy to be effective so you could drop those and use the points to get another beastmaster with 2 razorwings

It's a shame I can't give the Talos both a liquifier and chain flails; so many options, so little room xD I agree with the nightshield on the Razorwing, not sure what to do with the spare 10 points though haha. I personally prefer hydra gauntlets and razorflails, as 9/10 they'll be hitting first, and *hopefully* will be able to do some damage, plus ideally they'll be charging, and most of the time units only have 1 attack to start with, so it doesn't seem as worth it as the other two, each to their own eh I'm probably gonna build a 1000 point as a bridge between the current 500 points she has, and this one, see where it takes me in terms of my oppinions of things. She's just started out, and currently only has the battleforce, Lelith and the Mandrakes, and is yet to play a game with them, so only time will tell, and she wants to get what she currently has painted and made before getting more, so may be a while yet before this list comes to life, but better to have it to work towards instead of aiming endlessly. If I was to find the points to buy an additional close combat weapon, could I use that to then have both the liquifier and chain-flails? If not I'll put it down to what she likes the look of best haha. Thanks for all your help guys

The nightshields on the Kabalite transports I feel are worth it as although getting close, won't be getting as close. On the Raiders, could help them survive turn 1 if going second? Especially if night fighting comes my way Again something I'd have to test, but I do like the idea of having more Rending attacks in the Baron-Beastmaster unit...
