Greetings! What is Warsmith I hear you cry!?

Warsmith is/will be in short, a design and production studio of tabletop war-gaming miniatures and parts.

So, who’s the ‘brains’ (I use the word loosely) behind this venture?

Well you may have figured it out by now, its me Steve Smith – AKA Hits _The_Spot. Iv been an avid wargamer for the best part of 2 decades now. And having dipped my toe into the world of production with some encouraging success, I have made the decision to take some time and create a unique tabletop universe.

A unique tabletop universe you say?

This includes:

- A simple and entertaining game system

- An enthralling story line/setting

- And of course great miniatures and scenery.

So what now?

Well, iv been working away over the last few months designing a game system, writing a back story and delving in to the world of 3D printing. Yes you heard it, 3D printing, I’m jumping on that bang wagon.

Over the next few weeks ill be showing you designs and prototypes of possible miniatures and detailing the forthcoming game. I’ll also be asking for feed back and requesting your advice as to what you would like to see from the project. I’d like this project to be in part, a community project. So don’t hesitate to leave a comment or let me know what you think.

For now, ill leave you with the name and a few pieces of artwork to hopefully pique your interest.

The name i’ve decided to choose for this venture is, wait for it………

Epoch, for those who don’t know, means (at least for this purpose) a historic period of time. I think this is quite appropriate for a wargaming universe and have built upon the idea in the storyline and setting.

The factions populating this universe so far are:

The Empire:

The Ministry:

Insurrectionists:

Traders: To be updated

Xenids: To be updated

Indigen: To be updated

These concepts are from a very nice guy and great illustrator, to see more of his brilliant stuff and a very interesting blog, take a look at: http://ngaat.wordpress.com, you can also visit the WARSMITH blog at http://warsmith.co.uk

Well, there it is. Keep an eye out for more updates later today!

Great to see you back!

Your concepts look great, especially the utility tank! It looks really fitting to the other concepts, techy, but not too much! And that modular idea is cool.

I wasn't sure what was bothering me so much about these models until it just hit me today. The legs are way, way too thin, and the hands look like they have no articulated joint at the wrist. It overall ends up looking quite awkward. I notice that you mention you're adding greenstuff details once you have them printed. I hope you'll be bulking out the legs and arms with clothing of some sort.

The legs are also posed awkwardly. Stand up and take that pose exactly as it is. Do you feel like a warrior? Nope, and if you try the pose on the right hand side, you'll likely fall over. Agreed, the legs are too close together and too thin. There's no body language, almost no bend in the spine, no dynamic motion to make those guys exciting. The current sculpts also make the helmeted warriors look like they're not wearing pants. Double awkward.

To be honest, this looks like the sculptor wasn't using references, but making it up as he went along for everything except maybe the head.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback. As these are very early 1st WIPs I can take a look at changing a few things. But as iv said in the project log and the blog, I'm planing on using 3D printing as a starting point and add to it in the real, hench why the legs, arms and fingers are disproportioned. These are just to give me an idea of the best ways to use 3D printing and are most definitely not finished pieces.

Although I'm quite happy with the top two examples, I will admit that the bottom two poses need some work, as they are not particularly dynamic.

Thanks again,

Steve

Give them some combat trousers and jacket on top and they'd be looking very nice imo.

As it is they look a little strange.

Looks interesting. The Ministry Combat robot/droid looks good. The infantry look like they could use some tweaks. I notice your using realistically proportioned hands. Are you going for 1/56 true 28mm scale like the Wargames Factory stuff?

I assumed that there would be some sort of non-digital-sculpting on the arms and legs, but it's great to have confirmation. Looks great otherwise!

As a side-note, the hands seem finished, but they're abnormally small.

It's nice to get a sense of some more the figs. I think if nothing else it helps me visualise the game elements more. Tbh, on that note, it'd be really helpful to have a demo play vid. Otherwise the game is very abstract just now. Speaking of the game, one of my initial concerns is gameplay could end up quite like at-43, which became rather linear (I'm specifically thinking about movement here).
