Earlier this week, after what seemed like months of procrastination and other general life stuff, I was finally able to make some progress along the lines of MERCS. MERCS, arguably the most underrated sci-fi game out there, has some truly beautiful sculpts and fluff that really hits a soft spot with me (Dystopian Future and Mercenaries). So I picked up two “Cons”, the FCC (basically your anti-corporation freedom fighters) and Texico (Broke, Future cowboys that posses the Panama Canal).
I began by painting the Texico, although they had since received minor conversions to represent my self-made “Con”. A brief of the fluff is available below.
...the ‘Wild Roses’ are a Western, Canadian-based anti-corporation and anti-expantionalism group located within the lost margin territory that is present day British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. ‘The Wild Roses’, similar in a sense to modern day Western Canadian provinces, are notoriously anti-east and isolationists, preferring to be left both separate from the decisions of external actors, and free to pursue their own devices. Furthermore, this has lead to increased conflict with the CCC (a con whose influence covers most of present day Eastern Canada).
It should also be briefly mentioned that it is wrong to assume that the ‘Wild Roses’ are another FCC faction. The ‘Roses’ do not strive for “Free Corporate Control”, as the FCC does. Rather they strive for the protection and sustainability of their territory (which I’ll say by 2183, the present timeline, is still rich in the natural resources [oil, gas, water]) in addition to resisting Eastern-CCC influence. This includes their ultimate aspiration, the creation of a Western-North American based corporation, which could rival CCC’s claim to North America.
I have since finished the marshal (“The Mountie”, codename “Benton Frasier”) and demolitions expert (codenamed “Bob McKenzie”). Although I am by no means a good painter, they were still extremely fun to paint.
