Hi Dakka. I just want to say that the two Armys that I love to play the most are Ork and Guard. So I figured why not Ally them together. What I was wondering was if there is a winning combimation of the two. Now I
also wanted to say that only really play mech lists I don't really care for foot lists that much. So with that in mind what kind of tactics would I need to run in order to play a Mech Guard/Orks list that would work. It doesn't really bother me which army is the primary or secondary.

My idea is to either convert my guardsman into diggas or build an entire new army. I usually play Death Skull so playing with Mech Guard Allies or being Allied to a Mech Guard list would be quite fluffy with a mass of Looted Vechiles crusing around. All with pleanty of blue paint to make the lucky.

In my guard army I would like to include at least 1x Manticore and 1x Vendetta and some Chimera bound troops.

In my Orks I would like atleast 1 Battle Wagon loaded with either Burnas or Lootas with some Trukk Boys.

I usually play 1850 point games

Finally would the Chaos Maurauders box set from fantasy make good Diggas if I gave them Lasguns ect.

Heres an Ork + Guard list for you

Warboss - PK, attack squig, cybork - 110
Ork boys (19) - shootas, nob, power klaw, bosspole - 154
Ork boys (20) - shootas, nob, power klaw, bosspole - 160
Ork boys (20) - shootas, nob, power klaw, bosspole - 160
Lootas (8) - 120
Lootas (8) - 120
Battlewagon - Deffrolla - 110
Battlewagon - Deffrolla - 110
Battlewagon - Deffrolla - 110

Company command squad - 4 plasma guns - 110
Veteran squad - 3 melta guns, chimera - 155
Veteran squad - 3 melta guns, chimera - 155
Vendetta - 130

Thats 1704, so pretty hefty on the points, but effective. If you like, you can switch out the warboss for a big mek or two, and you can try switching out the boys in wagons to lots more units of boys in trukks. Add/take out lootas as per preference and likewise with dakkajets.

Yeah, IG allies are better just because of the Platoon option and being able to squad up Fast and Heavy options. You have alot more versitility with Guard.

Been playing 40k on and off since 89.
Armies...
Orks, Eldar, Lamentors, Pre-Heresy EC, CSM EC, and IG.

I just played my Bro in law last night and got toasted by his Ork/Dark Eldar army. From my experience if you are looking for the most potent combination you should go Ork primary and IG as an ally. Having the extra Ork HQ is great as their HQs are stronger in smaller battles. His 2k list looked like this:

2 Big Meks with Shok Attack Guns in a large squard of gretchin behind a defense line.
two squads of shoota boys in truks
squad of burna boys in a truk
Squad of lootas in a battle wagon
2 full squads of cans w/ grotzookas

Haemonculi ancient w/ trueborn in bastion (Ancient on top with lascannon and trueborn inside with darklances [Raider was taken and just sat and shot separately])
Squad of warriors in a raider with disentigrator cannon
Ravenger with three darklances

I have to say this was one of the most intimidating lists I've ever faced with my Knights. I know you could achieve a similar result in swapping the trueborn and hemonculi for a vetran squad and command squad. Probably a infantry platoon with las cannons galore in a defense line or in good cover.

IMO the only thing the Ork Codex lacks is accurate hi-powered long range, fill that gap and rush with the orks and you'll destroy people.

Hive Fleet Sorginak - 6,225 pts
Grey Knights and Inquisition - 8,084 pts
Steel Legion Mobile 666th - 3000 pts
Duke Sliscus' Private Strike Force - 4,161 pts
Deathwatch - 935 pts

-Taking on all comers.

Well at the moment I have two combos in mind. One is a few Guard Blobs in the Backfield behind an Agies with Quadgun and Lascannons and a couple of squads of Lootas. Then a few blobs of Orks to march forwards to assault with and take hits under cover of KFF. That is the most boring list and will most probley have a few Flyers and a Manticore.

The Second will be some Wagon Mounted Burnas and Lootas supported by Plasma Vets and CCS in Chimeras, Trukk Boys, a few Flyers and a Manticore. This list will faster and way cooler looking.

Sorry, I left out the twentyboys on foot with the truk as a dedicate . He hopped them in turn 1.They weren't in a position of threat till turn 3, but by then my units were occupied. Personally I'd just go with another squad of Lootas instead, since doing that they lag behind everything. But it was also night fighting turn one so I had to focus on what was in front of me.
