Subject: Grounding Test Question

Quick question. Let's say my Flyrant has Iron arm S9 and takes a round of shooting from bolters. These bolters cannot cause wounds to my flying tyrant but they manage to land a single 6 to hit him. Do I still need to take a grounding test despite the fact his bolters cannot even cause wounds to me? Can they even target me? I didn't see anything in the rule book to say they wouldn't cause a grounding test. As long as a single hit is recorded.
Seems rather strange that a bolter which has no effect on my tyrant can cause it to crash to the ground and wound it but I guess it makes sense.
Thoughts?

Unfortunately, (unless it was errata'd), any hit including, markerlighting a flying MC, causes the test. For weapons I can understand it as even though something may not be able to cause damage may cause a change in pressure that flight requires. For abilities I have an issue with something that does not cause damage requiring the test but RAW yup still requires the test.

Any hits can still ground you. The hit doesn't have to be capable of wounding.
This represents the MC getting destabilized in midflight by impacts, even if they can't hurt it they can still knock it off balance.

I get what you're saying for sure, and for gaming purposes it makes sense, but: By transmuting his flesh into living metal, the biomancer can wade through enemy fire unscathed and pulp skulls with his bare fists. A creature bred with wings for flight coated in living metal would not be "destabilized" or "unbalance" it self from a tiny markerlight or lasgun flashlight. Just sayin' is all.

For maximum silliness, you can get grounded by a shot that you successfully made a cover save against. "Oh no, that bullet hit a tree halfway across the battlefied, NOW I'M FALLING!"

Have you ever shined a laser pointer in someone's eye before?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I have, but I never fell to the ground in agony or frustration, nor did I take a S9 hit. If my eye was coated in metal it would reflect off it. Then again it says flesh so maybe the eyes aren't living metal.

Guess that fluff really has no place in a rules discussion, then.

Guess not, thanks for your insightful comment. I trust this thread will be closed since I see another one up with relatively the same question.

Flying MCs or Flyers in general don't get cover saves. They are in the air. Despite was it seen or not seen on the model, it's implied they are so high in the air, no cover save is given unless they are gliding or hovering.

Ummm, what?
They get cover the same way as any other model of their type. They can get a Jink save if they Evade or Dive.

As Grey Templar said, they get cover saves in exactly the same way as other models (plus with the Jink rule). Them being "high in the air" is a supposition based on fluff that has absolutely no grounding (heh) in actual rules.

Yeah, Swooping FMC gets cover save completely normally, even from area terrain. That small crater (area terrain) that FMC is 'flying' over? FMC gets cover save just fine.
Does this make sense? No, but that's pretty common in 40k.

A MC only gets cover save if it's obscured (just like a vehicle) I believe, kinda hard to do with a FMC ...
And anyway, the cover goes both ways with flyers, would be difficult for a flyer to be "just behind" that Aegis

Was true in 5th but not anymore.

Not really - I've done it a few times without trying.
