Daring Dark Eldar Raider Rider

In your nightmares...

Splinter death for all. It's supposed to be a TAC list which doesn't spam anything in particular and has a couple tricks that will take an unprepared opponent totally by surprise.

HQ
Asdrubael Vect (240)
Lady Malys (130)

Elites
8 Incubi (176)... in a Raider (60). Vect and Malys go here.

Troops
10x Warriors w. Splinter Cannon & Blaster (115)... in a Raider (60)
10x Warriors w. Splinter Cannon & Blaster (115)... in a Raider (60)
10x Warriors w. Splinter Cannon & Blaster (115)... in a Raider (60)
5x Wyches w. haywire grenades (60)... in a Venom w. extra splinter cannon (65)
5x Warriors w. Blaster (60)... in a Venom w. extra splinter cannon

Fast Attack
6x Reavers w. 2 cluster caltrops (172)

Heavy Support
1x Ravager (105)
1x Razorwing Jetfighter w. Flickerfields and splinter cannon (165)
1x Voidraven Bomber w. Flickerfields (155)

All that comes to 1978 points, which leaves 22 for whatever upgrades I feel like.

Now, the question is, what are the flaws and could it be competitive?

The Twilight Zone

No ride for malys, vect and the incubi. That is a really big issue.

As in, there is not point to the unit without a raider.

The redeploy and ability seize is pretty cool.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

No codex to hand so I can't offer points costs / savings, though if I were you I'd...

- Drop the blaster on the squad of 10 warriors, and give each of those raiders splinter racks. Night shields too if you can
- Replace the 5 Warriors with 5 more haywire wyches [edit] in a venom
- My personal preference would be to leave the reavers at home and get more raider warriors & haywire wyches if points permit.

Flaws are that you'll struggle against other aircraft - you can expect an ADL with AA gun now, so the Razorwing / voidraven may not last long without a lot of support from below. [edit] Added to that, I think the voidravens greatest asset is that piss taker of a mine it can drop - if you have points going, get one!

I don't think that Malys offers enough bang for her buck. It's nice to be able to reposition some units, though you have a 50% chance of stealing the initiative wit Vect - if this comes off in your favour her biggest bonus has been semi wasted. You'd see more benefit from another warrior boat / blasterborn etc. [edit] or a Haemy in this squad for an immediate pain token

Vect & Malys with incubi, without any pain tokens, are likely to get squished pretty quickly when you go to charge a gun line. Equally, if you pick your fights as carefully as you should then I'm sure the odds would even out, though this is an expensive outfit to tie in to one combat. Also, no FF / NS on that Raider? You'll end up footslogging your most expensive unit, and losing them to ranged firepower that you'll be unable to match from this unit.

Just reading that back, I feel I should apologise! I didn't mean to competely take your list apart and seemingly throw it back at you - I just want to point out that it's not how I'd run it, as I feel that I'd be able to counter it pretty easily simply by sticking in the back field and blasting away, then picking you off as you try dashing towards me

There is a ride for them, I just forgot to put it in. I edited it in just after I posted, my bad there.

There should be a rule about Vect and Malys not being able to be taken together, let alone in the same unit as they want to murder each other...

Anyway...

I second the idea to drop the 5 man warrior squad for more haywire witches. Also the reavers seem a bit out of place - you have a lot of boats and then 6 reavers. Splinter racks on the warrior gun boats will be a worthwhile investment (and dropping the blaster from the 10 man squads). Blasters work best when you have more than 1 i.e. trueborn. Otherwise you shoot the blaster at a tank and then the rest of your warriors wonder what to do next. The AP2 is nice but often a torrent of saves works better than AP2 vs TEQ and MEQ (well I find anyway).

Drop the splinter cannon from the razorwing. You can only shoot 4 weapons a turn - so 2 missiles and your 2 dark lances. Splinter weapon is the last resort and frankly be that time it should have been shot down. Use the point to put night shields on your ravager.

Also, enhanced Aethersails on the Incubi raider is a possible benefit (I don't use them personally but my FLGS game tables are smaller than your average). Only Vect has a ranged weapon; so getting that unit of pure murder across the table and into CC is your top priority. They need to be in CC on turn 2.

So far the effectiveness of 10 Wraithblades with Ghost Axes:
Tanked 2 Leman Russ squadrons (including the battle cannons and the triple plasma variant); whilst also getting wailed on by everything imaginable in a Fortress of Redemption. Only to get into CC with the tanks and open them up.
2000 points worth of Necrons with Forgeworld additions. Got into CC with a court of Lords and opened them up.
Killed a GUO.
Killed Angrath the Gargantuan Bloodthirster in an Apoc game (with the help of Iranna the Spirit Seer).
Ate a Hammerhead, pathfinders and scored after 3 turns of walking towards a 2000 point Tau gunline and overwatch!
And counting............

It doesnt really look like malys is adding anything, she usually doesnt unless taken in a big squad of grotesques, I'd replace her with a haemie so the incubi can have fnp to start with.

Malys is very useful versus anything with tonnes of psychic oomph. Her redeploy is quite useful as well, as is the fact that she isn't too shabby in CC.

Well she isnt bad, she was just kinda made obsolete in 6th since you can take a farseer for psychic defense that benefits the hole army instead of just a unit.
